Job description

Summary

Project Engineer, under the general supervision of the Division Director, organizes and manages public work capital improvement projects including water, wastewater, street, drainage, and rail. Reviews land development and improvements to public infrastructure, including water, sewer, streets, and drainage facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the technical and engineering aspects of assigned projects
  • Acts as contract administrator for assigned projects
  • Meets to plan and budget projects, ensuring compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, and ordinances
  • Provides team leadership, technical support related to construction inspection, supervises engineering inspectors and field crew as needed
  • Oversees workload distribution between inspectors
  • Resolves issues that may arise in the field or during plan review
  • Oversees CIP projects as assigned (including RZ CIP projects)
  • Recommends projects for City capital improvements program consistent with master plan
  • Assists in development of project budgets; reviews and monitors budget throughout the year
  • Identifies and evaluates long-term infrastructure needs in commercial, private, and public development within City limits and ETJ area
  • Reviews development plans flood plain applications in compliance with Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance and associated State / Federal criteria
  • Provides land development review services including attending public meetings
  • Provide updates and gives presentations at City, Commission, or Board meetings
  • Provides engineering services for written statements, reports, letters, and citations
  • Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering or related field
  • Four (4) years of civil engineering experience

Certifications and Licenses

  • Valid driverโ€™s license
  • Current Texas Professional Engineer License or the ability to obtain within six (6) months from date of hire
