Job Description

At Bose Corporation, we believe sound is the most powerful force on earth โ€” and for over 60 years, we have been a company built on innovation, excellence, and independence. Privately owned, fiercely customer-focused, and driven by our values, we continue to lead industries and transform lives through sound. Today, Bose Corporation is entering an exciting new era. Across multiple global Business Units and Global Functions, we are shaping the future of audio technology, automotive, luxury, and premium experiences. We invite you to join us in this transformation.

Responsibilities
  • Explore consumer needs, use cases, and experience opportunities, translating these insights into experience concepts, technical requirements, experiments, and evaluation plans.
  • Define reusable audio-system architectures, interfaces, and integration approaches that enable emerging technologies to be applied efficiently across products, form factors, and partner applications.
  • Design, tune, and evaluate prototypes and reference implementations across a range of consumer form factors, including personal, wearable, portable, embedded, and outโ€‘loud audio devices.
  • Develop and evaluate signalโ€‘processing approaches that improve audio performance or enable new consumer experiences.
  • Conduct acoustic and electroacoustic measurements of components, subsystems, and complete systems, combining objective data with critical listening and perceptual evaluation to guide technical improvements.
  • Collaborate with engineers and researchers across DSP, controls, acoustics, electrical, mechanical, and software disciplines to optimize system performance.
  • Define and evaluate requirements for audio components such as loudspeakers, microโ€‘speakers, microphones, and related acoustic structures.
  • Identify important systemโ€‘level tradeoffs, risks, constraints, and opportunities early in development, and use experimentation to guide technical decisions.
  • Present concepts, experimental results, recommendations, and technical risks through peer reviews, design reviews, written documentation, and stakeholder demonstrations.
  • Provide technical leadership within crossโ€‘functional teams by framing ambiguous problems, guiding systemโ€‘level tradeoffs, and establishing clear technical direction.
  • Collaborate with Bose product, platform, and businessโ€‘unit teamsโ€”and with external partners as appropriateโ€”to mature promising concepts and support their transition into Bose products and thirdโ€‘party experiences.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering, Acoustical Engineering, Audio Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Ten or more years of relevant professional experience in audio system development, acoustical engineering, digital signal processing, or consumer audio.
  • Strong foundation in digital signal processing, signals and systems, acoustics, electroacoustics, psychoacoustics, and transducer fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated experience defining audioโ€‘system architectures and balancing requirements across acoustics, signal processing, transducers, electronics, software, and mechanical constraints.
  • Handsโ€‘on experience designing, integrating, measuring, tuning, and troubleshooting highโ€‘performance audio systems.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB or an equivalent environment for measurement, data analysis, signal processing, or algorithm development.
  • Strong criticalโ€‘listening skills and an ability to connect perceptual observations with objective system behavior.
  • Experience making technical decisions in situations where requirements, architectures, or development paths are not yet fully defined.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to engineering specialists, business stakeholders, and audiences outside the immediate technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical work across disciplines and collaborate effectively with researchers, engineers, product teams, and business partners.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing consumer audio products or advanced prototypes involving headphones, earbuds, wearables, portable speakers, home audio, embedded audio, or other consumer devices.
  • Experience with active noise cancellation, noise management, voice pickup, speech processing, beamforming, acoustic echo cancellation, voice activity detection, or related microphoneโ€‘system technologies.
  • Familiarity with loudspeaker and microphone design, lumpedโ€‘parameter models, microโ€‘drivers, ECM microphones, MEMS microphones, enclosure design, and acoustic porting.
  • Experience using acoustic test and measurement systems from suppliers such as Brรผel & Kjรฆr, GRAS, Audio Precision, National Instruments, Listen/SoundCheck, or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience implementing, integrating, or tuning algorithms on realโ€‘time DSP, embedded, or rapidโ€‘prototyping platforms.
  • Experience transferring technology from an advancedโ€‘development or research environment into a productโ€‘development program.
  • Experience collaborating with external technology partners or integrating audio technologies into thirdโ€‘party products and platforms.
  • A background in music performance, recording, mixing, sound design, or another discipline that has developed highly trained listening skills.
Working at Bose Labs

This position spans multiple programs and technology areas. Projects may range from short explorations intended to answer a focused technical or experiential question to longer efforts that produce integrated, experienceโ€‘ready demonstrations. This role requires comfort moving between detailed engineering work and broader experience discussions. At different points, you may be measuring a prototype in the lab, tuning signal processing, conducting a listening evaluation, defining a system architecture, presenting a demonstration, or helping a Bose product, platform or partner team understand how a technology could be incorporated into a future consumer offering.

Occasional domestic or international travel may be required to support collaborations, demonstrations, partner engagements, or development activities.

At Bose, you're inspired to be and do your best and are rewarded for your unique talents!
