Job description

Millions of independent businesses power Amazon's store - and their success depends on customers trusting every transaction. We are looking for a talented, tech-savvy product attorney to serve as lead counsel supporting the Selling Partner Trust & Store Integrity team, the organization responsible for ensuring that bad actors cannot operate in our store while legitimate sellers start, grow, and operate globally without fear of disruption.
This team sits at the intersection of two outcomes that must be true at the same time: customers and selling partners trust the integrity of Amazon's store, and sellers can build thriving businesses across borders with confidence and ease. The attorney in this role will advise on seller identity verification, enforcement strategy, regulatory compliance, and the trust-based systems that make both outcomes possible - protecting customers from fraud and abuse while removing friction for genuine businesses.
Key job responsibilities
As counsel for the TSI business, you will:
- Directly advise the leadership team and influence the direction of strategic programs
- Advise on a broad range of product, commercial, and regulatory matters, including leading implementation for new regulations and considering legal issues of first impression
- Counsel product and engineering teams on seller identity verification technologies and fraud prevention mechanisms that protect the store at scale
- Support the development of AI and other science techniques to detect bad actors earlier and more precisely
- Advise on pre-litigation legal disputes and manage outside counsel handling arbitrations
- Work cross-functionally with law enforcement and litigation teams to hold bad actors accountable through referrals and proactive litigation
- Collaborate with privacy, regulatory, IP, public policy, and compliance legal teams to deliver consolidated legal recommendations on complex, multi-jurisdictional issues
- Positively impact the livelihood of all sellers in Amazon's store by protecting them from abuse and helping them navigate global compliance with ease
- Help drive strategic initiatives to support our external engagement pillars on how Amazon protects our store, including contributing to proactive legal and legislative initiatives
A day in the life
No two days are exactly the same. You may start your day advising a product team on the legal implications of a new verification technology that will allow sellers to onboard faster in new geographies, then analyze a proposed seller policy change, and develop a new legal framework that helps protect seller listings from unnecessary enforcement while preserving customer safety. Later, you might negotiate a partnership agreement with external partners to improve bad actor detection industry-wide, design requirements for a new compliance initiative, or prepare a briefing for senior leadership on an emerging regulatory development.
About the team
You will be part of the Customer & Partner Trust (CPT) Legal team within NA Stores Legal. Our team supports Amazon's Selling Partner Services business - the worldwide team that enables third-party sellers to sell products through Amazon. Our team safeguards the integrity and trustworthiness of Amazon's store, and supports business-critical services for our sellers.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of post bar admission legal experience
- Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in-house work
- Experience with in-house work at a technology or internet company
- Experience implementing scalable compliance solutions (technology, procedures, processes, etc.) in a regulated environment
