Job Description

An Alston Discovery Staff Attorney/Discovery & Analytics Consultant ("Staff Attorney") is a hybrid full‑time salaried position with HR benefits. Staff Attorneys assist in the management and supervision of eDiscovery matters, privilege reviews and logs, transactional due diligence, research, lease or contract reviews, and other assigned work.

Successfully candidates must be licensed attorneys in good standing.

Qualifications
  • Technical expertise with eDiscovery review platforms, AI tools, advanced analytics, TAR, contract analysis platforms, Excel, and other technology tools.
  • Demonstrated or potential for excellent leadership, management and supervisory skills.
  • Depth of experience with eDiscovery, analytics and emerging AI tools.
  • In‑depth knowledge of and experience with privilege reviews and logs.
  • Ability to effectively work and interact with lawyers and clients, serving as a representative of the firm’s legal team.
Essential Duties
  • Assume primary attorney responsibility (“ownership”) for Alston Discovery projects.
  • Create and revise project estimates.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with associates and partners.
  • Participate in discovery business development and marketing efforts.
  • Consistently engage in client conferences and meet and confers.
  • Create, revise and implement best‑practice guidelines, protocols, workflows and templates for analysis and production of electronic data.
  • Draft and implement legal hold memos and ESI orders.
  • Lead Relativity training sessions.
  • Draft defensibility memorandums, after‑action reports and de‑briefings.
  • Team building, knowledge sharing and cross‑training of attorneys, staff attorneys, tech professionals and client teams.
  • Coordinate with discovery leadership and internal/external client teams.
  • Manage and supervise complex document reviews, contract analysis and analytics projects.
  • Maintain responsibility for non‑review special projects such as research, surveys and contract analysis.
  • Oversee partnership with Legal Technology & Consulting Services team on analytics project design and implementation.
  • Perform second‑tier review or quality control on document reviews.
  • Perform and supervise privilege reviews.
  • Assist client teams in developing witness files, timelines, chronologies, deposition and trial outlines and memoranda.
  • Create and update document decision and privilege logs.
  • Preserve confidentiality of client matters.
  • Maintain accurate time entry records.
  • Adhere to firm’s policies, procedures and best practices.
Skills Needed to Be Successful
  • Advanced Relativity certifications.
  • Proficiency in software tools such as Heretic, Excel, etc.
  • Superior legal analysis skills.
  • Significant experience applying state‑of‑the‑art litigation technology, advanced analytics and project management tools.
  • Ability to supervise and manage multiple attorneys in discovery and production of documents and data across commercial, financial, insurance, product liability, health‑care, IP litigation and government investigations.
  • Ability to track, evaluate and provide performance feedback to improve project attorneys and staff attorneys.
  • Ability to manage e‑discovery requests arising from subpoenas or production requests.
  • Ability to train new attorneys on privilege, confidentiality and e‑discovery policies.
  • Ability to supervise foreign‑language document reviews.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish relationships throughout the firm and with clients.
  • Responsive and flexible to immediate assistance requests.
Education & Experience
  • Juris Doctorate degree.
  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing in the state in which they live and work.
Salary

Up to $225,000 with an opportunity to earn a bonus of up to $34,000.
