FW Check Airman

Job Summary Company instructor who performs an oversight, safety and qualification role for Helicopter and/or Fixed Wing pilots undergoing evaluation. Conducts training and flight checks in a classroom, an aircraft, or in a flight simulator.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Evaluate operational compliance including all aspects of safety, flight operations, maintenance operations, and other procedures and policies as described in the General Operations Manual.
• Initial and Recurrent training (ground and flight).
• Transition, differences, and ROC (restricted operations checks) ground and flight training.
• Correct and report out‑of‑compliance issues immediately; when unable to correct immediately, coordinate with the ACP and Regional Aviation or Maintenance Director to ensure problem is corrected.
• Assist in the development and implementation of flight and ground training schedules.
• Ensure that standardized training and checking procedures, provided by the certificate, are adhered to.
• Assist the CP and ACP in all pilot record keeping requirements in accordance with applicable FARs and policies.
• Submit required reports in a timely manner.
• Operate advanced aviation training devices and full‑motion simulators as required.
• Assist the CP in the development of the aircraft checklist and Air Methods’ Pilot Training Programs.
• Assist in the development and conduct of Basic Indoctrination Training, initial and recurrent ground training, initial and recurrent flight training, instrument training (ground and flight), and night vision goggle (NVG) training (ground and flight).
• Other duties as assigned.

Additional Job Requirements

• Regular scheduled attendance.
• Indicate the percentage of time spent traveling (centralized).
• Indicate the percentage of time spent traveling (decentralized).

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Education & Experience

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Recommendation from a current Air Methods Flight Instructor or Check Airman preferred.
• Previous Instructor/Check Airman experience.
• ATP rating in aircraft category preferred.
• Commercial/Instrument rating required.
• Must meet total flight hour requirements.

Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) Program

• 2500 total flight hours with minimum of 2000 flight hours in category.
• 1000 hours PIC in category.
• 500 hours of cross‑country flight time, at least 50 hours of which were at night.
• 500 hours of turbine time.
• 100 hours night flight time.
• 100 hours of flight in actual instrument conditions in category.

Skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to implement training programs (initial and recurrent training).
• Ability to work in a collaborative manner with all levels of staff.

Computer Skills

• Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• CFI / CFII (Rotor wing) or willingness to obtain within one year.

USD $89,650.00/Yr.

Maximum Pay

USD $134,475.00/Yr.
