Head Athletic Trainer / Instructor (Kinesiology)

NCAA Division II | Lone Star Conference

Department: Athletics

St. Edward's University invites applications for the position of Head Athletic Trainer / Instructor (Kinesiology). This position provides leadership and professional management of the University's sports medicine program in alignment with the mission of the University and the Department of Athletics. The Head Athletic Trainer is responsible for overseeing all aspects of athletic training services, ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes, while supporting academic collaboration within the Department of Kinesiology.

The role fosters a culture of care, compliance, and competitive excellence within the Lone Star Conference and NCAA Division II, while prioritizing student-athlete welfare, academic success, and holistic development.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Athletic training or related field required
  • Texas licensure required.
  • NATA BOC certification in good standing required.
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid certifications required.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible collegiate and/or clinical athletic training experience.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division II rules, sports medicine best practices, and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience with electronic medical records and injury documentation systems.

Preferred:

  • Supervisory experience in athletic training settings.
  • Experience in NCAA intercollegiate athletics.
  • Experience with insurance coordination, risk management and budget oversight.
  • Teaching or instructional experience in kinesiology or related field.
  • Experience working with kinesiology students and practicum programs.

Essential Responsibilities include:

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all athletic training and sports medicine services.
  • Deliver injury prevention, evaluation, emergency care, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play planning.
  • Coordinate medical coverage for practices, competitions, and team activities.
  • Serve as primary liaison with team physicians and oversee referrals and follow-up care.
  • Act as the NCAA Health Care Administrator.
  • Supervise, schedule, and evaluate assistant athletic trainers, interns, and student staff.
  • Manage the daily operations of the athletic training room and sports medicine program.
  • Oversee athletic training budget, supplies, and equipment needs.
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation and ensure HIPAA compliance.
  • Coordinate pre-participation physicals, medical clearances, and insurance processes.
  • Develop and implement emergency action plans and concussion protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA, Lone Star Conference, and institutional policies.
  • Collaborate with coaches, administrators, physicians, and campus partners.
  • Support Kinesiology academic programming, including coordination of practicum experiences and course support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or Assistant AD for Internal Operations/SWA.
