Salary Range: $60,000-$65,000 Annually

JOB SUMMARY

The Strength and Conditioning Coach oversees the implementation and daily operations of Mid-Pacificโ€™s strength and conditioning programs as designated by the Assistant Athletic Director โ€“ Sports Performance and Innovation and Athletic Director. This role is responsible for delivering developmentally appropriate training programs that support the performance, health, and well-being of student-athletes in Grades 4โ€“12.

The Strength and Conditioning Coach plays a key role in expanding access to athletic development by integrating structured strength and conditioning opportunities within the academic day, including free periods and alternative Physical Education offerings. This position works collaboratively with the sports performance team to ensure alignment across strength and conditioning, athletic training, and performance initiatives, while promoting a safe, inclusive, and high-performing environment for all student-athletes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned by the Athletic Director.

Program Implementation and Oversight

  • Oversee daily operations of strength and conditioning programs for all athletic teams.
  • Design and implement age-appropriate, sport-specific training programs aligned with long-term athlete development principles.
  • Ensure proper technique, progression, and supervision in all training sessions.
  • Coordinate and lead team and individual training sessions before, during, and after school.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and positive training environment.

School-Day Integration

  • Develop and implement strength and conditioning opportunities during the academic day, including free periods and alternative Physical Education classes.
  • Collaborate with academic leadership, PE teachers, and athletic staff to align training with school-day schedules.
  • Increase student-athlete access to performance training through innovative scheduling and programming.

Athlete Performance Programming

  • Support individualized and team-based performance plans based on sport, position, and developmental stage.
  • Implement injury prevention strategies, mobility programs, and recovery protocols.
  • Assist with return-to-play progressions in coordination with athletic trainers.
  • Promote education on nutrition, recovery, and overall wellness habits.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work directly with the Assistant Athletic Director โ€“ Sports Performance and Innovation to ensure alignment of performance initiatives.
  • Collaborate with coaches, athletic trainers, and faculty to support student-athlete development.
  • Communicate training plans, expectations, and athlete progress with relevant stakeholders.
  • Promote the athletic program to students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and the public.

Facilities and Equipment Management

  • Ensure that all strength and conditioning facilities and equipment are safe, well-maintained, and professionally presented.
  • Monitor usage of facilities and enforce safety protocols.
  • Assist in evaluating and recommending equipment needs and upgrades.

Staffing and Professional Development

  • Assist in training and supervising interns, student aides, and part-time staff.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to remain current with best practices in strength and conditioning and sports performance.

Resource Oversight

  • Assist in managing equipment inventory and procurement processes related to strength and conditioning.
  • Support partnerships and initiatives that enhance the sports performance program.

Attendance and On-Site Presence

  • Regular and predictable attendance at work.

SCHOOL SAFETY & COMPLIANCE

  • Adhere to all ILH, HHSAA, and NFHS compliance guidelines regarding training, rest, recovery, and concussion protocols.
  • Actively participate in school-wide safety procedures and reporting.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and equitable environment for all student-athletes and staff.
  • Participate in mandatory safety and harassment training and maintain first aid/CPR certifications.
  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Comply with the instructions given for their own safety and health and that of others, in adhering to safe work procedures.
  • Take reasonable care to ensure their own safety and health and that of others.
  • Report any injury, hazard or illness immediately to their Supervisor and Human Resources.
  • Not place others at risk by any act or omission, not willfully or recklessly interfere with safety equipment.
  • Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviors.
  • Identify, assess if necessary, and control hazards within the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that equipment/supplies are properly maintained.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge of safety laws.
  • Mandatory reporting of sexual abuse to law enforcement or child protective services, and Human Resources. Sexual abuse includes child molestation, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with a minor, and serial sexual misconduct, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with more than one victim; and committed by or alleged to have been committed by any perpetrator who is not a student of an included entity.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field preferred.
  • Current certification (CSCS, SCCC, PES or equivalent preferred).
  • Experience working with middle and/or high school athletes.
  • Strong understanding of long-term athlete development and injury prevention.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, coaches, and staff.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

WORK SCHEDULE

This is a full-time, 12-month position that includes responsibilities during the summer and scheduled school breaks. This position is based on a minimum of 40 hours per week. Work hours require flexibility and are often scheduled around practices, matches, and athletic events. Travel with teams may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Our campus consists of multiple buildings on 44 hilly acres that requires frequent walking, including uphill and stairs. The individual is required to stand, walk, demonstrate skills, and supervise outdoor activities for extended periods. May be required to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds. Requires close vision and the ability to instruct and demonstrate tennis skills.

MENTAL DEMANDS

On a daily basis, must frequently problem solve, make decisions, organize, communicate clearly, and manage multiple responsibilities. Must effectively lead student-athletes and staff in a dynamic environment.
