Job description

The Student Athlete Tutor provides support to students in designated subject areas to promote academic achievement. Responsibilities include assisting students in understanding course concepts, reinforcing classroom instruction, and fostering the development of effective study and learning strategies. The Student Tutor is expected to maintain a professional and supportive learning environment, demonstrate strong subject matter knowledge, and adhere to institutional policies regarding academic integrity and confidentiality. This role contributes to the overall mission of the College by supporting student success and retention initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a current student at NWCC
  • Communicates well with students
  • Maintains an interested attitude and is both friendly and patient
  • Supports a facilitative, conversational, inquiry-based approach to consultations with students

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Academic Support - Provide subject-specific tutoring to reinforce classroom instruction and improve student understanding.
  2. Study Skills - Help students develop effective study strategies, time management, and organizational skills.
  3. Assessment & Feedback - Monitor student progress, provide constructive feedback, and encourage self-assessment.
  4. Writing & References - Assist with writing assignments, proper citation, and use of academic resources.
  5. Resource Referrals - Connect students with appropriate academic support services when needed.

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule
  • Must work well in a team environment 
  • Ideal candidate should have a positive attitude, be productive with minimal supervision, and have a good attendance record
