About GDM (Gray Media Group):
Gray's Digital Technology group builds and operates the products that bring local news, sports, and live programming to audiences across 100+ television stations - on the web, on mobile, and on connected TV platforms. Quality is critical to ensure viewers are focused on journalism, not the technology that delivers it. You will help make sure that what we ship is reliable, accessible, and ready when it counts - election night, severe weather, breaking news.
Job Summary/Description:
The Digital QA Analyst validates the quality, functionality, accessibility, and reliability of digital products across web, mobile, connected TV, APIs, data feeds, and internal systems. You'll partner closely with Product Owners, developers, and business stakeholders to confirm that what we build meets requirements, holds up under real-world use, and is genuinely ready for release. The right person combines strong testing fundamentals, critical thinking, technical curiosity, and a sharp eye for detail to catch problems early and promote quality at every stage of the development lifecycle, not just at the end.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Design, plan, and execute testing activities across web, mobile, connected TV (CTV), APIs, data feeds, and internal platforms to ensure products meet quality and business expectations.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, developers, and stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle to clarify requirements, identify risks, and improve overall product quality.
• Create and maintain test strategies, test cases, regression suites, and documentation while prioritizing testing efforts based on risk, complexity, user impact, and release timelines.
• Identify, document, and validate defects through resolution, providing clear communication on testing status, release readiness, and potential risks.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing quality trends, supporting efficient QA processes, and helping expand test automation coverage where it provides the greatest value.
Test design and planning:• Build test strategies, cases, and validation approaches from requirements, Jira tickets, stakeholder input, and product knowledge.
• Partner with Product Owners and developers early in the software lifecycle to surface risks, clarify requirements, and improve testability before development starts.
• Prioritize coverage by risk, complexity, business, and user impact, and release timelines.
Test execution across platforms:• Run functional, regression, integration, exploratory, accessibility, and user acceptance testing across web, mobile, CTV, and internal platforms.
• Execute cross-browser, cross-device, and mobile testing.
• Test connected-TV apps (Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV) for playback, captions, ad behavior, and live-versus-VOD scenarios.
• Validate APIs, data feeds, AI-generated outputs, JSON/XML payloads, and downstream integrations.
Defect lifecycle:• Identify defects, usability issues, edge cases, and unexpected behavior.
• Write clear defect reports with reproduction steps, expected-versus-actual results, and supporting evidence.
• Re-test fixes and confirm resolution before release.
Collaboration and process:• Take part in sprint planning, backlog refinement, standups, and retrospectives.
• Work alongside developers to isolate issues and support root-cause analysis.
• Maintain regression suites, test documentation, and repeatable QA processes.
• Validate release readiness and communicate status, risks, and recommendations clearly.
Continuous improvement:• Track quality trends, recurring defects, and areas of technical debt that affect product
stability.
• Help identify where automated testing would add the most value, and partner with
engineering to grow coverage and efficiency.
• Contribute to initiatives that raise product quality and team effectiveness.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in software quality assurance, digital product testing, or a related field, with hands-on experience testing web applications, mobile applications, internal systems, or other digital products.
• Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, including functional, regression, integration, exploratory, accessibility, and user acceptance testing, with the ability to identify issues and validate solutions across multiple platforms.
• 3+ years of experience in software QA, digital product testing, or a closely related field.
• Hands-on experience testing web applications, mobile applications, internal systems, or other digital products.
• Strong grasp of functional, regression, integration, exploratory, accessibility, and acceptance testing.
• Ability to turn requirements and user workflows into effective test cases and scenarios.
• Experience validating APIs, structured data, and system integrations.
• Strong defect documentation and the collaboration skills to work across the full SDLC.
• Working understanding of accessibility principles, and willingness to build accessibility checks into everyday testing.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving instincts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience testing media, broadcast, publishing, CMS, or other content-driven platforms.
• Experience testing connected-TV/OTT apps and validating video playback, closed captions, and ad insertion (SSAI/DAI).
• Experience validating JSON/XML/API responses and integration workflows.
• Basic SQL for validation and troubleshooting.
• Experience testing iOS and Android applications.
• Familiarity with browser developer tools and network inspection.
• Exposure to test automation and an interest in growing automated coverage.
• Accessibility testing against WCAG guidelines.
• Experience supporting release validation and production readiness.
What Success Looks Like:
• Requirements are validated thoroughly before release.
• Critical workflows perform reliably across every supported platform - including playback and ad delivery.
• Defects are identified early and communicated clearly enough to influence product and development decisions.
• Releases ship with predictable quality and few production-impacting issues, which means less rework afterward.
• Test coverage and regression confidence improve over time.
• Stakeholders have clear visibility into QA status, risks, and release readiness.
• Engineering trusts the quality bar on every release.
