Job Description
The Continuing Education (CE) Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to students in a variety of subjects, ranging from professional development and technical skills to personal enrichment and hobbies. The instructor will design or select appropriate curriculum content and will implement course materials, facilitate engaging learning experiences, and assess student progress to ensure successful learning outcomes.
This is a very part-time, as needed, daytime position.
This position offers a flexible schedule based on the needs and demand for BLS training classes. Class schedules may vary but will be daytime hours, depending on enrollment and program requirements. The position may be assigned to various training locations to accommodate scheduled BLS classes and organizational needs. Course planning would be discussed prior to placing an instructor.
Required Qualifications
Education:
o Must have current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS instructor certification
Experience:
o Demonstrated experience in teaching, training, or professional instruction, preferably in continuing education.
o Expertise in the subject area being taught.
Skills:
o Strong communication and presentation skills.
o Ability to engage and motivate adult learners.
o Proficiency with instructional technology and online learning platforms (if applicable).
Other Requirements:
o Availability to teach during evenings, weekends, or online as needed.
o Commitment to ongoing professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
Physical Demands
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. occasionally, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Salary
$30 Hourly
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
Course Development:
o Design and update course materials, lesson plans, handouts, and assessments.
o Incorporate a variety of teaching methods and technologies to accommodate different learning styles.
o Ensure course content is current, relevant, and aligned with industry standards or learner needs.
Instruction:
o Deliver engaging and effective instruction in person or online, as appropriate for the course delivery format.
o Vary instructional approaches to appeal to multiple learning styles.
o Utilize teaching methods that support adult learning theory, building upon experiential knowledge and understanding and providing contextualized scope.
o Facilitate class discussions, activities, and practical exercises to reinforce learning.
o Provide clear explanations of complex concepts and skills.
o Conduct courses in a manner that helps participants to stay engaged in the learning process and meet course objectives.
o Perform applicable basic life support (BLS) skills to the standard at instructor-level skill proficiency.
o Plan for and ensure participants' health and safety during training.
Student Assessment:
o Evaluate student performance through assignments, exams, projects, and participation.
o Provide timely and constructive feedback to help students improve.
o Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance.
Communication and Support
o Respond to student inquiries and provide guidance as needed.
o Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
o Communicate course expectations, objectives, and policies clearly to students.
Administrative Duties:
o Complete and submit required documentation, such as attendance records, grades, and course evaluations in a timely manner.
o Assist with marketing and promotion of continuing education courses as needed.
o Adhere to all institutional policies and procedures.
