As a Medical Scribe, you will become an integral member of the healthcare team by documenting patient encounters in real time, allowing providers to focus on delivering exceptional patient care. This position provides valuable exposure to medicine, medical decision making, and clinical workflows, making it an ideal opportunity for individuals pursuing careers in medicine, nursing, physician assistant studies, healthcare administration, or other healthcare professions.
Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Document patient encounters accurately and efficiently in the electronic medical record under the direct supervision of a physician or advanced practice provider.
  2. Record provider-dictated patient histories, physical examination findings, laboratory and imaging results, procedures, consultations, and medical decision-making.
  3. Accurately document the timing of patient care activities, including provider reassessments, consultations, and communication with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  4. Maintain clear, organized, and thorough medical documentation that complies with all applicable documentation standards and regulatory requirements.
  5. Collaborate closely with providers and other members of the healthcare team in a dynamic, high-volume emergency department.
  6. Ensure patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with HIPAA and all applicable federal, state, and organizational policies.
  7. Understand that all documentation is reviewed, amended as necessary, and authenticated by the supervising provider, who maintains ultimate responsibility for the medical record.

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
  1. Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
  2. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
  3. Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, high acuity healthcare environment.
  4. Professionalism, dependability, and strong interpersonal skills.
  5. Ability to quickly learn medical terminology, clinical workflows, and electronic medical record systems.
  6. Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and exercising sound judgement.

Minimum Position Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Pursuing or planning to pursue a career in healthcare.
  3. Ability to commit to a minimum of one year of employment.
  4. Availability to work at least two shifts per week, including availability for nights, weekends and holidays.
  5. Basic understanding of medical terminology.

Preferred Position Qualifications:
  1. College coursework in biology, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology or other related coursework.
  2. Previous experience as a medical scribe or in a healthcare setting.
  3. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology.
  4. Bilingual, preferably Spanish.
  5. Ability to commit to two or more years of employment and maintain availability for three or more shifts per week.
