  • Work year is 193 days, 4 hours per day
  • Follows student calendar year
Please note that pupil transportation requirements must be met initially and ongoing as necessary, per Education Code.
Finalist(s) will be required to provide proof of a physical examination within the last two years that meets the pupil transportation requirement before an offer of employment and contract will be issued.
Job Summary
Under general supervision and direction, transports District pupils to and from school and special events; performs daily inspections and maintains the District vehicle in a clean and orderly condition; performs related duties as required.
General Duties
  1. Drive a district vehicle over assigned routes in accordance with an established time schedule, picking up and discharging students
  2. Transport students safely to and from school and other school sponsored events
  3. May transport children with special needs
  4. Adhere to State laws, District policies, and safety procedures regarding student discipline and public contact with parents, school personnel and community members
  5. Follow and implement student(s) behavior plans, maintaining student discipline
  6. Sweep and clean the interior and exterior of the District vehicle/
  7. Prepare daily and weekly reports on mileage, number of students transported and condition of District vehicle
  8. Report problems or equipment malfunctions
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Credential and/or License: Valid Class A or Class C California Motor Vehicle Operator's License; must have a clear driving record to be insured and continue to be insurable by the District's liability insurance carrier.
  • Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing Program: Must clear mandated pre-employment drug and alcohol screening; will be part of pool for randomly selected drug and alcohol screening.
  • Education: Education equivalent to graduation from the 12th grade.
  • Experience: Minimum one year experience driving with a Class C license and experience with driving a 10 passenger vehicle. Experience working with special need students preferred.

Knowledge and Abilities
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices and procedures
  • Ability to maintain appropriate student behavior
  • Demonstrate the proper methods of vehicle safety inspections and maintenance
  • Handle situations with tact, diplomacy and safety at all times
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the routine course of duties
  • Respond and report special circumstances to the appropriate personnel
  • Adheres to requirements of being a Mandated Reporter

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the District's policies and procedures and existing contract with association.

While performing the essential functions and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms and speak and hear effectively. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
