Position Description
Associate Staff - Data Scientist
The Bioanalytics Systems & Technologies Group focuses on driving analytic and Al/ML solutions that leverage the vast and rapidly expanding biological datasets to address national security needs. The Group's efforts include developing software architectures and systems, bioinformatics tools, and AI algorithms to further the nation's efforts in biomedical, health, chemical and biological defense, biosecurity, public and global health and warfighter performance.
The BioAnalytics Systems and Technologies Group is looking for a candidate to join a multi-disciplinary team engaged in developing and applying new AI models for a broad set of applications: chemical and biological detection from wearable sensors, predicting causality markers for diseases, developing foundation models, and using GenAI models for a broad range of biomedical and clinical applications. The position will involve leading the development of AI/ML models, data curation, planning and conducting field data collections, leading small programs, collaborating with other scientists and engineers, and communicating results both in written and oral form.
Job Requirements
  • Master's in Data Science, Computational Biology, Biomedical Informatics, AI, or related scientific field or equivalent experience in technical analysis. In lieu of a Master's degree, a bachelor's degree with 3 to 5 years of directly related experience will be considered.
  • Experience with AI development including applying large language models (LLMs) for retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) for biomedical problems.
  • Experience in developing data pipelines from harmonizing, curating and aggregating data. Familiarity with molecular, physiological and/or clinical data a plus
  • Ability to work collaboratively and lead highly interdisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated skills in scientific writing, as well as development and clear presentation of technical materials to a wide spectrum of technical and non-technical audiences a plus
  • Experience with bioinformatic processing and analysis of sequence (genomics/transcriptomic), proteomics, and chemical data using open-source and custom tools is highly desirable
  • This role is onsite only
