Job description

Crossing Guard โ€“ Roosevelt, Utah โ€“ $15.00/hour
Join the City of Roosevelt as a Crossing Guard and help keep our children safe on their way to and from school. Located in the beautiful Uintah Basin, Roosevelt City offers a supportive, community-focused work environment where safety, teamwork, and service are at the heart of everything we do.

Why Work for Roosevelt City?
Roosevelt City is a growing community that values the well-being of our residents and takes pride in delivering exceptional public services. Our Police Department is committed to protecting the community while fostering a culture of trust, professionalism, and care. As a Crossing Guard, you will be an important part of our public safety team-protecting children, ensuring safe school routes, and building positive connections with the community. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working outdoors, has a strong sense of responsibility, and wants to make a direct impact on the safety of our city.

What You'll Do
As a Crossing Guard, you'll be the friendly and reliable face that students see every school day. You will:

  • Safely stop traffic using authorized signs and equipment.

  • Monitor and assist school-age children in crossing busy intersections.

  • Arrive 45 minutes before school starts/ends and remain 15โ€“30 minutes after.

  • Maintain awareness of traffic and adjust crossing patterns for safety.

  • Instruct drivers and pedestrians on safe crossing practices when needed.

  • Interact professionally and respectfully with students, parents, school staff, and the public.

  • Serve as a positive role model for safe pedestrian behavior.

A typical day starts with preparing your safety gear, arriving early to your assigned intersection, and ensuring children cross safely before school begins. In the afternoon, you return to your post to ensure they make it home just as safely.

Schedule
This position follows the school calendar and typically involves one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon, Monday through Friday. You'll work about 8โ€“10 hours per week and have most Fridays off when school is not in session.

What We're Looking For
To be successful as a Crossing Guard, you should have:

  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility for children's safety.

  • Good physical condition, including adequate vision and hearing.

  • Ability to accurately judge time and distance with approaching traffic.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with children and the public.

  • A valid Utah driver's license and reliable transportation.

  • At least 18 years of age; high school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Apply Today
If you're ready to make a difference in your community and enjoy a role where safety and service come first, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today using our quick 3-minute online application at www.rooseveltcity.com or in person at Roosevelt City Hall.
