This is an Elementary School Nurse position for the 2026-2027 school year at Vinton Elementary School. Vinton is on a 4-day work week, Monday-Thursday and select Fridays. Start date for the position is July 29, 2026. Candidates must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana. This position comes with full benefits including participation in the stated PERF plan. Vinton Elementary School is located in the heart of the city of Lafayette just one hour north of downtown Indianapolis and two hours south of downtown Chicago along I -65 in west central Indiana. Lafayette is a growing city with a strong economic base and the LSC is growing along with it. The Greater Lafayette Area is the home of Purdue University, and the presence of the university helps to make Lafayette one of the greatest places to live in the Midwest. Position Summary
The Elementary School Nurse is the primary health professional for assigned elementary schools. The position provides direct nursing care, health assessments, medication administration, chronic condition management, health compliance oversight, and health education services.
The Elementary School Nurse works collaboratively with the Director of Health Services, school administrators, staff, students, and families to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment while maintaining compliance with all state health regulations and Lafayette School Corporation policies.
Essential Responsibilities
Student Health Services
  • Provide nursing assessments and treatment for students referred to the health office.
  • Administer medications and perform specialized health procedures as required by physician orders.
  • Develop and maintain Individualized Health Care Plans (IHCPs) and Emergency Care Plans.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid and emergency care.
  • Proficient in the care and management of students with diabetes, seizure disorders, asthma, severe allergies, and other chronic health conditions.

Health Compliance & Reporting
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with Indiana immunization requirements.
  • Complete required health reports and documentation.
  • Coordinate vision screenings and health-related referrals.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.

Leadership, Collaboration & Communication
  • Serve as a health resource for staff, students, and families.
  • Communicate health concerns and recommendations to parents and school personnel.
  • Collaborate with district administrators and nursing staff to support student wellness initiatives.
  • Assist with the implementation and coordination of district nursing procedures and best practices.

Health Education & Staff Training
  • Provide health-related training to school personnel.
  • Support student health education initiatives.
  • Promote wellness and preventative health practices throughout the school community.

Professional Practice
  • Participate in professional development and district nursing meetings.
  • Support continuous improvement of district health services.
  • Maintain compliance with nursing standards, HIPAA, FERPA requirements, and applicable health regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Health Services

Qualifications
Required
  • Current Indiana Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and respond effectively in emergencies

Preferred
  • Experience in pediatric, community, public health, or school nursing
  • Knowledge of child growth and development
  • Experience working with students with chronic health conditions
