Description
The Assistant/Associate Professor, School Counseling in the College of Education at Piedmont University is as a member of the faculty in the area of School Counseling. This faculty member will teach, advise, and supervise students in academic and clinical settings. The Assistant/Associate Professor, School Counseling must be able to participate in program development including establishing relationships with schools and mental health providers in the area. Collaboration with faculty within the Professional Counseling Program, and In addition, the position requires course development, program and student assessment, office hours, and general service to the College of Education and the University.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Effective teaching of graduate level hybrid courses within the School Counseling Program while using multiple modalities: online (synchronous and asynchronous), hybrid, and face to face. (Includes some weekend and night courses).
Know GaPSC program and certification requirements for School Counselors.
Collaborate with P-12 school partners.
Supervise practicum and internship students.
Advise and mentor students.
Interact with students in a professional manner within the College of Education.
Maintain accurate and secure records of student grades, attendance, and advisement.
Maintain high standards of professionalism in the content, objectives, teaching, and grading of all courses.
File accurate course syllabi with the College of Education each semester.
Maintain an understanding of college policies and the curriculum and degree requirements of their respective schools.
Participate in departmental, college, and University faculty meetings and serving on committees as appropriate.
Contribute to the ongoing operation of the College of Education.
Assess their teaching effectiveness via annual portfolios and evaluating courses formally in accordance with official University procedure.
Assure their availability to students, faculty, staff, and administrators by posting and keeping reasonable office hours, as determined by the dean of the College of Education.
Maintain a professional level of scholarship by continuous study, research, and attendance and participation at professional meetings. These activities are supported by the University through departmental travel funds and the faculty development program.
Other relevant duties as assigned.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
On-site work is required.
Incumbents must remain relevant in the area of employment and flexible to changes in work related to institutional needs.
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience
Assistant/Associate Professor of School Counseling:
Specialist degree or higher in School Counseling or related field
Certification as School Counselor in Georgia or eligible for licensure as a School Counselor
Counseling experience in a P-12 or higher education setting.
Teaching experience in a P-12 or higher education setting.
Assistant/Associate Professor of School Counseling & Program Director - Must have terminal Degree
Licenses and Certification
Service Certification in School Counseling or eligibility for certificate
Hold or eligible to sit for the National Certified Counselor (NCC) certification exam, National Clinical Mental Health Counseling (NCMHC) certification exam.
Valid Georgia Driver's License (or obtained within 30 days of hire date) and satisfactory MVR.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Clinical and applied skills sufficient to supervise practicum and internship students.
Expertise in teaching online synchronous, asynchronous, hybrid, and face-to-face courses.
Knowledge GaPSC program and certification requirements for School Counselors.
Knowledge of program assessment, accreditation procedures, and data collection and analysis.
Effective oral and written skills.
Ability to collaboratively and effectively work in a diverse and inclusive environment.
Supplemental Information
Environmental, Physical, and Visual Acuity Factors
Work will be performed in indoor environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Incumbents will perform work that is mostly sedentary, where they exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Incumbents will regularly get up and down from a seated position, reach, bend, and stand throughout the day.
Incumbents are required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
