Astro Developer information

What is an Astro developer?

An Astro Developer is a web developer who specializes in building websites and web applications using the Astro framework. Astro is a modern, open-source framework that enables developers to create fast and optimized static sites and server-rendered applications. Astro allows you to use components from frameworks like React, Vue, and Svelte together in one project, and focuses on shipping less JavaScript to the browser for improved performance. Astro Developers are skilled in frontend technologies and leverage Astro's unique features to deliver efficient and scalable web solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Astro developer?

To thrive as an Astro Developer, you need strong proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, along with a solid understanding of the Astro framework and modern web development practices. Familiarity with tools like npm, Git, and integrations with frameworks such as React, Vue, or Svelte is typically required. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help you collaborate and deliver performant, maintainable websites. These abilities ensure you can leverage Astro's strengths to build fast, scalable, and user-friendly web applications.

What are some common challenges Astro developers face when integrating third-party APIs or services into their projects?

Astro Developers often encounter challenges ensuring seamless integration with third-party APIs, especially when balancing Astro’s partial hydration approach with dynamic data needs. Handling client-side interactivity while maintaining performance can require careful planning, such as strategically loading scripts or using Astro Islands. Additionally, managing API keys securely and dealing with changing API responses can be complex in a static-first environment. Collaboration with backend teams or API providers is also essential to troubleshoot issues and ensure data consistency.

What is the difference between Astro Developer vs Front-End Developer?

AspectAstro DeveloperFront-End Developer
Required SkillsProficiency in Astro framework, JavaScript, HTML, CSSProficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue
Work EnvironmentWeb development projects focusing on static site generation and performance optimizationBroader web applications, UI/UX design, and client-side scripting
Industry UsageEmerging in modern web development, especially for static sitesWidely used across all web development sectors

Astro Developers specialize in using the Astro framework to build fast, static websites, while Front-End Developers work on a broader range of web interfaces using various frameworks. Both roles require strong JavaScript skills, but Astro Developers focus more on static site generation and performance optimization within the Astro ecosystem.

Job description

About the Role
AvePoint is looking for a technical, hands-on Senior Engineer to join Business Operations and serve as a lead developer within the GTM Engineering function. Approximately 30% of this role's time is dedicated to hands-on coding, scripting, integration development, and technical troubleshooting. The remaining 70% is dedicated to strategic technology planning, architecture ownership, and delivery execution across the GTM tech stack.
This person will act as a trusted technical advisor to Marketing Operations & Technology leadership, translating business objectives into a prioritized technical roadmap while remaining close enough to the code and systems to build, debug, and validate solutions directly when needed. The role requires strong engineering judgment, hands-on technical depth, and the ability to move fluidly between strategic planning and direct execution across three mission-critical areas: website architecture, GTM infrastructure and data foundation.
Key Responsibilities
Hands-On Engineering (~30% of Time)
  • Build, test, and maintain integrations, scripts, and automations across the GTM tech stack.
  • Debug frontend tracking, tagging, and consent implementations directly in code and using browser developer tools.
  • Contribute code and technical fixes for website infrastructure, CMS integrations, and API-driven workflows.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate troubleshooting, scripting, and integration development.
  • Validate technical designs through direct implementation and prototyping before handoff or scale-up.

Strategic Technology Planning and Delivery (~70% of Time)
Own GTM technical roadmap
  • Translate business objectives and innovation priorities into a multi-quarter technical roadmap across the tech stack and web platform.
  • Maintain AvePoint's GTM architecture and integration strategy that improves scalability, measurement, and governance.

Support web front-end and back-end infrastructure
  • Maintain the health, performance, availability, and security of global web properties supporting the GTM stack across CDN, cloud, and application infrastructure.
  • Partner with Engineering and DevOps to improve observability, deployment reliability, uptime, and performance optimization across marketing web platforms.
  • Develop and maintain custom Craft CMS modules and plugins to extend content workflows, integrations, and site functionality beyond out-of-the-box capabilities.
  • Oversee incident response processes and operational readiness for deployments, DNS, SSL/TLS, caching, CDN routing, and platform availability.

Own technical planning and delivery
  • Provide technical delivery guidance and draft technical requirements as senior technical contributor.
  • Implement SCRUM practices to increase delivery speed and predictability.

Support data infrastructure and measurement foundations
  • Own strategy and governance for marketing and GTM data platforms, pipelines, event collection, and identity alignment across systems, from first touch to lifecycle.

Support compliance, privacy, and security by design
  • Architect global consent logic and privacy orchestration, including cookie compliance platforms such as Osano, while protecting measurement and data integrity.

Job Requirements
Engineering Delivery
  • Proven experience as a senior technical contributor owning delivery outcomes, including roadmap planning, dependency management, risk mitigation, and stakeholder alignment.
  • Strong operational execution with SCRUM-based delivery, sprint planning, and measurable throughput improvements.
  • Comfortable operating as both a technical business partner able to direct technical strategy and personally execute hands-on engineering work.

Cloud, Infrastructure, and Web Platform
  • Familiarity with modern website infrastructure and cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, including CDN, networking, Kubernetes, DNS, and web application delivery concepts.
  • Solid grounding in cloud architecture and web delivery (CDN, DNS, SSL/TLS, caching) plus event-driven, serverless, and API integration patterns.
  • Proven track record designing and delivering large-scale web applications with a focus on reliability, performance, security, and cost efficiency.

Application & Languages
  • Languages: JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, SQL, Python
  • GTM Applications and Platforms: Craft CMS, React, Astro, Node.js, REST APIs, CRM, Marketing Automation, GraphQL, Redis, Microsoft Azure, GitHub/GitLab, Osano, Google Tag Manager, GA4, Postman, Zapier/Make, Segment, BigQuery

Headless CMS and Modern Frontend Architecture
  • Experience supporting headless CMS and modern frontend architectures such as Craft CMS, Astro, GraphQL APIs, SSR/ISR rendering models, and API-driven content delivery.

DevOps, CI/CD, and Deployment
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD workflows, Git-based development practices, and deployment tooling using platforms such as GitLab or GitHub.

Caching, Automation, and Performance
  • Understanding of caching strategies, webhook-driven automation, CDN cache invalidation, and Redis-based application caching.

Website Cookie Compliance
  • Privacy orchestration experience with the ability to architect global consent for website cookie compliance software such as Osano, TrustArc, or OneTrust.

AI-Assisted Development
  • Ability to use AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Google AI Studio to accelerate troubleshooting, scripting, automation, and integration development.

Foundational Technical Literacy
  • Web fundamentals: understands what HTML, CSS, and DOM elements are, enough to guide an AI tool to scrape or modify them.
  • API logic: understands REST APIs and JSON structures, and how to use tools such as Postman, Zapier, or Make.
  • Data literacy: basic SQL knowledge to query data in tools such as Segment or BigQuery.
