What is an assurance manager?

Assurance Managers are professionals who oversee and coordinate audit and assurance engagements, ensuring that financial statements and business operations comply with regulatory standards and internal policies. They lead teams of auditors, review work for accuracy, and communicate findings and recommendations to clients or senior management. Their role is crucial in identifying risks, improving processes, and maintaining the integrity and transparency of financial reporting. Assurance Managers often work in accounting firms or large organizations and require strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an assurance manager?

To thrive as an Assurance Manager, you need expertise in audit and assurance practices, a strong understanding of accounting principles, and typically a CPA or similar professional qualification. Proficiency with auditing software, data analytics tools, and familiarity with standards such as IFRS or GAAP are commonly required. Strong leadership, analytical thinking, and effective communication skills help you manage teams and client relationships successfully. These skills are crucial for ensuring high-quality audits, regulatory compliance, and delivering value to clients.

How does an assurance manager typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

As an Assurance Manager, you will regularly work with teams across multiple departments, such as finance, operations, and IT, to ensure that internal controls and compliance standards are being met. Collaboration often involves leading meetings to discuss audit findings, coordinating with management to implement process improvements, and providing guidance on risk management strategies. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as you'll need to translate technical audit results into actionable recommendations for non-audit professionals. This cross-functional engagement is key to driving organizational improvements and maintaining a high standard of compliance.

Job description

Description
As a Quality Assurance Tester for Card and Connected Commerce, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our marketing creative copy materials meet the highest standards for accuracy, clarity, and compliance.
You will be responsible for conducting thorough and timely quality assurance testing of marketing creative materials being submitted by our Card and Connected Commerce business partners. Your efforts will directly support these partner business areas by delivering reliable, consistent, and clear testing results, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, internal guidelines, and targeted business processes.
PLEASE NOTE: This role focuses on reviewing written materials with some audio and video content and does not involve software or technology related QA testing.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Conduct detailed quality assurance reviews on marketing creative copy materials submitted by Card and Connected Commerce business partners.
  • Use standardized testing questionnaires and various support resources to complete reviews of creative materials, validating their alignment to regulatory requirements and internal guidelines.
  • Deliver reliable, consistent, clear, and timely testing results.
  • Document and communicate findings in a timely manner, ensuring all supporting test evidence is clear, easy to navigate, and stored in the appropriately designated repositories.
  • Work closely with marketing, legal, and Marketing Copy Review teams to reach accurate testing results, escalating critical findings when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with business partners to perform deeper investigations on creative details when needed and communicate confirmed issues to marketing stakeholders via our internal QA testing system.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of related requirements, procedures, playbooks, guidelines, etc. to execute reviews quickly and at the highest level of quality.

Required Qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • 3+ years of professional experience involving quality reviews of marketing materials, business controls, regulatory compliance, risk, audit, or work reviewing similar materials and analytically focused tasks.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities with sharp attention to detail.
  • Proficient organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute responsibilities independently by leveraging available resources such as procedures and training materials, applying sound judgment to escalate matters when appropriate.
  • Proactive at identifying actionable tasks and maintaining focus to reach successful completion.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills, able to provide clear, actionable feedback and partner effectively with stakeholders across multiple levels of the business.
  • Exceptional team player with a "we win together" mindset, committed to active collaboration, sharing information, and helping others when needed.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • Experience in marketing, controls, compliance reviews, and/or executing quality assurance testing on written materials and processes is strongly preferred. Note: Experience in QA testing of written materials and processes is not the same as software QA.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to build strong relationships across the organization.
  • Capable of discussing differing opinions while maintaining composure and professionalism.
  • Experience with data management and reporting, including maintaining trackers/datasets, ensuring data quality, and producing recurring/ad hoc reports. Familiarity with data wrangling/cleaning, building reusable reporting datasets, and cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS and data lakes) is an added plus.
  • Demonstrated success in prompt engineering and/or building AI agents/automations to streamline workflows (e.g., documentation, knowledge retrieval, reporting), with appropriate controls and human review.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field of study and/or CRCM (Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager) encouraged.
