Position: Assistant Band Director
Location: Lakeland Regional High School
Season: Marching Band Season
Position Summary
Lakeland Regional High School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Assistant Band Director to support all aspects of the Lancer Marching Band program. The successful candidate will assist the Band Director in providing high-quality musical instruction, coordinating rehearsals and performances, and promoting student growth through music education.
The Assistant Band Director will work collaboratively with the Band Director and instructional staff to ensure the continued success of the marching band program while fostering a positive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Band Director with planning and implementing all aspects of the marching band program.
  • Provide musical instruction during rehearsals, sectionals, summer band camp, football games, competitions, parades, and other scheduled performances.
  • Support instruction in marching fundamentals, music performance, and ensemble techniques.
  • Assist with organizing rehearsals, attendance, equipment, and performance logistics.
  • Work collaboratively with the Color Guard Instructor, Percussion Instructor, and other instructional staff to ensure a cohesive performance.
  • Promote student leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and musicianship.
  • Assist with recruiting and retaining students for the band program.
  • Help maintain music library, uniforms, instruments, and equipment.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students during all rehearsals, travel, and performances.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Band Director and school administration.

Qualifications
  • Previous experience teaching or assisting with a high school or collegiate marching band program preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumental music, marching techniques, and ensemble instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students and staff.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Must possess a valid New Jersey Teaching Certificate or be eligible to obtain a New Jersey Substitute Credential.
  • Must satisfy all New Jersey Department of Education employment requirements, including criminal history background clearance.

Compensation
  • $4,529.82 stipend in accordance with the Lakeland Education Association (LEA) Negotiated Agreement.
