Job description

Velos is seeking a bright, energetic, self-motivated, detail-oriented intern to join a small team supporting the National Security Space Association (NSSA), a rapidly growing industry association, assisting with event planning and day-to-day operations. This is a unique opportunity for someone looking to work in the association/non-profit/events industry as NSSA produces myriad events ranging in size and scope.


NSSA (www.nssaspace.org) is a 501(C)(3) non-profit support association solely dedicated to the National Security Space Enterprise, to include the Department of War, U.S. Space Force, and the Intelligence Community. NSSA works to advance long-term cooperation among industry and government, leading the way with expert opinion, insight and analysis.


Location: This position is on-site in our Arlington, VA office

Hours: 20-30 hours/week


SUMMARY OF POSITION DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS


  • Assist with registration for all NSSA events to include building of the registration system, answering inbound questions, coordination of clearance passing as appropriate, badge printing etc.
  • Assist in maintaining master contact lists for eventual upload into new software system (association management system)
  • Provide administrative support (i.e. attend meetings, take notes, schedule meetings etc) for NSSA's Moorman Center for Space Studies, Workforce Development Program, Congressional Affairs, MARCOM, Membership, and Business Development activities.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of NSSA assets in storage
  • Support communication team initiatives
  • Provide logistical support to NSSA team members in producing meetings (in-person and virtual) and events to include on-site/day of event
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS


Education and Experience Required:

  1. Bachelor's degree or anticipated bachelor's degree in hospitality, event management or related field
  2. Internship experience with similar responsibilities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  1. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products
  2. Working knowledge of databases
  3. Motivated team player and "can do" self-starter, who can work with little supervision
  4. Strong organizational skills with demonstrated commitment to accuracy, detail, and timeliness in completion of tasks
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  6. Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to cultivate meaningful relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders
  7. Intellectual curiosity with desire to learn and ability to rapidly translate new skills to informed decisions
  8. Demonstrate critical thinking, sound judgment, ability to manage competing priorities
  9. Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  10. Must be eligible to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance


Preferred

  • Experience with corporate membership associations or national security space industry
  • Experience in planning and producing in-person and virtual events
  • Experience working in customer relationship management platforms (CRM)
  • Experience in quickly learning new software platforms
