Association managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the daily operations of membership-based organizations, such as trade associations, homeowner associations, or nonprofit groups. Their duties typically include managing member communications, organizing events, handling budgets, enforcing policies, and ensuring the association meets its goals and legal obligations. They serve as a key point of contact for members and often work closely with boards of directors to implement strategic initiatives. Successful association managers possess strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an association manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Association Manager, you need strong organizational, leadership, and financial management skills, often supported by a relevant degree or experience in association management. Familiarity with member management software, event planning platforms, and budgeting tools is typically required, and a Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential is highly valued. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving abilities help build strong relationships with members and stakeholders. These skills are crucial for efficiently running association operations, fostering member engagement, and ensuring the organization's objectives are met.

What are some common challenges faced by association managers when balancing the needs of members and the goals of the board?

Association Managers often navigate the challenge of aligning the diverse interests of members with the strategic direction set by the board. This requires strong communication skills to ensure transparency and foster trust between all stakeholders. Managers must also prioritize tasks effectively, address member concerns in a timely manner, and mediate conflicts when they arise. Building consensus and maintaining a positive organizational culture are essential for long-term success in this role.

Community Association Manager - HOA & Condominium
Location: Austin, Texas
Compensation: $70,000-$75,000 annually, based on experience
Employment Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., with occasional evening Board meetings and weekend commitments
Travel: Local travel throughout the Austin area
Manage Communities. Build Relationships. Make an Impact.
RISE Association Management Group is seeking an experienced Community Association Manager to oversee a portfolio of condominium and single-family homeowners associations throughout the Austin area.
This is a client-facing role for someone who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems, and building strong relationships with Board members and homeowners. As the primary point of contact for your assigned communities, you will help Boards make informed decisions while coordinating financial, operational, maintenance, vendor, and resident-service needs.
You will manage multiple priorities at once-from preparing for Board meetings and reviewing financial information to coordinating vendors, addressing homeowner concerns, and ensuring approved projects and action items are completed.
If you are organized, proactive, comfortable working independently, and enjoy being the person clients can rely on to get things done, this could be a great opportunity for you.
What You'll Be Responsible For
Community & Board Management
  • Manage a portfolio of condominium and single-family HOA communities throughout the Austin area.
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for assigned Boards of Directors and communities.
  • Attend Board of Directors and membership meetings and provide professional guidance and support.
  • Prepare meeting agendas, Board packets, reports, and follow-up documentation.
  • Track Board decisions and ensure approved action items are completed.
  • Help Boards navigate community operations, maintenance needs, budgets, vendors, and homeowner concerns.
  • Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with Board members, homeowners, vendors, and internal RISE teams.
Financial & Operational Management
  • Review monthly financial packages and Board reports.
  • Assist Boards with annual budgets and ongoing financial planning.
  • Monitor community expenses, invoices, contracts, and vendor costs.
  • Provide Boards with clear recommendations based on financial and operational information.
  • Coordinate maintenance requests, community projects, inspections, and vendor services.
  • Obtain and review vendor proposals and help Boards evaluate options.
  • Identify potential issues before they become larger operational or financial problems.
Resident & Client Service
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for homeowners and Board members.
  • Respond to calls, emails, and service requests within established company standards.
  • Handle difficult homeowner concerns with professionalism, patience, and sound judgment.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to resolve community issues.
  • Maintain a proactive communication style so clients know what is happening rather than having to ask for updates.
Portfolio & Account Management
  • Manage multiple communities, deadlines, meetings, projects, and priorities simultaneously.
  • Maintain accurate community records and documentation.
  • Follow RISE procedures, technology platforms, and established workflows.
  • Assist with onboarding new association accounts and transitioning communities to RISE.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service, efficiency, and the overall client experience.
What We're Looking For
Required
  • At least 2 years of community association or HOA management experience
  • Experience working directly with Boards of Directors
  • Experience managing vendors, community projects, and homeowner concerns
  • General understanding of accounting principles and association financial statements
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Outlook, Word, and Teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organization and time-management abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple communities and competing priorities
  • Strong customer-service and relationship-building skills
  • Professional judgment, accountability, and emotional intelligence
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout the Austin area
  • Ability to attend occasional evening Board meetings and weekend community events
Preferred
  • Experience managing both condominium and single-family HOA communities
  • Experience independently managing a portfolio of multiple communities
  • Multifamily property-management experience
  • Experience with community association management software
  • CMCA, AMS, PCAM, or other industry designation
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Property Management, or a related field

We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every preferred qualification. If you have strong HOA or community association experience and are ready to take the next step in your career, we'd like to hear from you.
