Job description

A well-established economic development agency is seeking an Accounting Specialist to support accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, collections, and day-to-day accounting operations. Compensation & Highlights
Compensation:
  • $65,000 - $72,000 per year, based on experience.
  • This is a full-time, permanent opportunity with a full benefits package at a stable, well-established quasi-state agency supporting one of Rhode Island's most significant economic assets. The schedule is a predictable Monday-Friday, in-person schedule, with long-term growth potential for the right candidate.

Responsibilities of the Accounting Specialist:
  • Create customer and tenant invoices according to lease and contract details, including invoices for various operational functions and utility usage, and mail them out on time.
  • Manage accounts receivable, including collecting on overdue accounts, following up on delinquent accounts by phone, email, or mail, and ensuring compliance with payment plans.
  • Process purchase requisitions and distribute purchase orders for goods and services, ensuring purchasing guidelines are observed.
  • Review vendor invoices for accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare accounts payable documents for payment, verify vendor invoices against purchase orders, resolve discrepancies, process expense reports, and prepare checks for signature.
  • Process daily bank deposits using an online banking system.
  • Assist with clerical and administrative tasks, including telephone coverage, processing mail, and other duties as required.

Qualifications of the Accounting Specialist:
  • Associate's degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliations.
  • Working knowledge of general accounting principles and procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook; experience with Business Central accounting software is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities and a willingness to learn.
