The Senior Regional Welding Engineer is responsible for standardizing, optimizing, and governing welding processes across all global manufacturing Industrial Solutions sites. The role ensures compliance with AWS, ASME BPVC, PED, Nadcap, and internal quality standards while improving weld quality, cost, and efficiency. This position serves as the enterprise SME for welding technologies, NDT, and weld program governance, and leads the development of future-state welding capabilities through technology evaluation and scalable global implementation.

Qualified candidates must be able to work a hybrid schedule at our Bloomington, MN office.

Role Responsibilities

  • Serve as enterprise SME for welding processes, metallurgy, NDE, fabrication standards, weld design, and welding engineering governance.

  • Support new product introduction and major programs with weld feasibility, qualification, process development, and technical problem solving.

  • Provide expert guidance in welding metallurgy, materials selection, heat input control, distortion management, and failure analysis.

  • Evaluate, introduce, and implement advanced welding technologies (robotic, laser, hybrid, adaptive systems, automation, digital tools, and real-time monitoring).

  • Develop long-term roadmap for welding innovation, capital investment, and workforce upskilling.

  • Establish and govern global welding standards, procedures, and best practices aligned with AWS, ASME, PED, ISO, Nadcap, and customer requirements.

  • Oversee WPS/PQR development, welder/operator qualification, certification tracking, and global compliance across all sites.

  • Lead cross-functional alignment across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to standardize global welding operations.

  • Conduct audits, ensure regulatory and customer compliance, and oversee NDT requirements and execution.

  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for weld-related issues across the enterprise.

  • Drive cost reduction, process efficiency, and standardization of consumables, equipment, and welding practices.

  • Develop and deliver global training programs, mentoring, and competency systems for welders, inspectors, and engineers.

Travel: Internationally 40-60%

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.

  • 5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Welding certifications (CWI, CWE, IWE or equivalent)

  • 5+ years of welding engineering experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Strong knowledge of AWS, ASME BPVC, PED, Nadcap, and global welding standards.

  • NDT certification (Level II or III in VT, PT, MT, UT, RT or equivalent).

  • Experience in weld design, materials, distortion control, and failure analysis.

  • Proven ability to support new product introductions and complex welding programs.

  • Experience leading root cause analysis and corrective actions for weld issues.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop welding personnel globally.

  • Experience creating and delivering training programs and building technical capability.

  • Experience in global manufacturing, ideally in aerospace, energy, heavy equipment, or pressure-retaining components.

  • Experience with welding automation, robotics, and advanced manufacturing technologies.

  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification preferred.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach to documentation and compliance.

  • Excellent communication, cross-cultural collaboration, and ability to influence without authority.

  • Proven technical leadership and capability in training and developing others.

Annual Salary Range: $92,400 - 127,500. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to applicable work experience, training, education, and performance. Based on work location, geographic adjustment is included.
