Keel was formed by bringing together three industry leaders combining generations of hands-on expertise in steel fabrication, shipbuilding, aerospace, and defense manufacturing.
That means when you join Keel, you're joining a team backed by decades of proven craftsmanship and real-world results.
We build ships, defense systems, aerospace components, and heavy steel structures that serve critical missions - and we do it with pride.
Your Mission:
The Welder is an entry-level role focused on learning and performing basic welding tasks under close supervision. This position is responsible for joining, fabricating, and repairing metal components using established techniques and procedures. Work is guided by instructions and pre-established guidelines with limited independent judgment.
Explore the Depth of the Role:
  • Join, fabricate, and repair metal and other weldable materials using appropriate welding processes.
  • Interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics to determine correct welding methods.
  • Set welding machine parameters with guidance from supervisors.
  • Inspect completed welds for structural soundness and adherence to specifications.
  • Apply basic knowledge of Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW).
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of Oxy-Fuel Cutting, Carbon Arc Cutting, and Plasma Arc Cutting.
  • Use hand tools such as grinders, tape measures, chipping hammers, and personal protective equipment effectively.
  • Maintain safe work practices and follow company safety standards

Requirements
Mission Readiness:
  • High school diploma or equivalent may be required.
  • Technical training in welding preferred.
  • Less than 1 year of welding experience or equivalent.
  • May require completion of an apprenticeship or formal training in area of specialty.
  • Basic understanding of weld symbols, welding positions, and blueprint reading.
  • General knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the welding field.
  • Awareness of material differences, including carbon steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.

Travel Requirements:
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk, occasionally stoop, kneel and/or climb; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The associate must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds independently and maneuver up to 200 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
