What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Associate Web Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Web Developer, you need a solid understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and basic web development concepts, often supported by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp. Familiarity with tools such as version control systems (like Git), content management systems, and frameworks like React or Angular is highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication set standout candidates apart in collaborative and fast-paced environments. These skills are crucial for building functional, user-friendly websites and contributing effectively to team-based projects.

What Is an Associate Web Developer?

An associate web developer is a junior-level web developer who tends to the basic responsibilities of the team. As an associate developer, you determine the requirements of the client, pick out team members, and delegate development tasks to each of them. Most of your duties cover the introductory and testing phases of a given project because you have to make sure every part of the website works as it should. You ensure that the website or application supports migration; users need to be able to access the site or app from multiple operating systems. Associate web developers work as part of a team rather than coding the entire site.

How do Associate Web Developers typically collaborate with designers and senior developers on projects?

Associate Web Developers frequently work closely with UX/UI designers to translate design mockups into responsive web pages and user interfaces. They also collaborate with senior developers during code reviews, project planning, and troubleshooting sessions, gaining valuable feedback and guidance. This teamwork fosters a supportive environment where junior team members can develop their technical skills and learn industry best practices while ensuring the final product meets both technical and design specifications.

Is AI replacing web devs?

AI tools are increasingly used to assist web developers by automating repetitive tasks and generating code, but they do not fully replace the need for skilled developers. Web development requires creativity, problem-solving, and understanding user needs, which AI cannot fully replicate. Developers who adapt by learning new tools and technologies remain essential in the field.

Is an associate's degree in web development worth it?

For an associate web developer, an associate's degree provides foundational skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and basic programming, which can help start a career in web development. However, practical experience, portfolio projects, and proficiency with tools like Git and frameworks often weigh more in hiring decisions than formal education alone.

What is an associate web developer?

An associate web developer is an entry-level or junior web developer who assists in designing, coding, and maintaining websites. They typically have foundational skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and may work under supervision to gain experience and develop their technical abilities.

Can I be a web developer with an associate's degree?

Yes, an associate's degree can qualify you for entry-level web developer positions, especially if you have strong skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related tools. Many employers value practical experience, portfolios, and certifications alongside formal education for this role.

Job description

General Summary:

Hands-on Data Engineer / API Integration Developer to help build and support modern data pipelines, system integrations, automation workflows, and internal web applications. This role will work across business systems, cloud platforms, databases, APIs, and AI-assisted development tools to deliver practical solutions that improve operational visibility, process automation, and enterprise data flow.

The ideal candidate is a builder who can move between data engineering, API development, workflow automation, and application prototyping. This person should be comfortable using Python, SQL, PHP, n8n, Snowflake, AWS services, and AI-assisted development tools to rapidly develop, test, and deploy business solutions. Experience with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne is a strong plus.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines between enterprise applications, databases, cloud platforms, and internal systems.
  • Develop API integrations between ERP, CRM, service platforms, third-party applications, and custom internal tools.
  • Build and maintain workflows using n8n and similar automation platforms.
  • Develop scripts, services, and lightweight applications using Python, PHP, SQL, and modern web technologies.
  • Work with Snowflake to support data ingestion, transformation, modeling, and reporting needs.
  • Support integration with cloud AI platforms such as AWS Bedrock and related services.
  • Assist in the development of internal AI-enabled tools, workflow automations, and business process applications.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools and “vibe coding” practices responsibly to accelerate development while maintaining quality, security, and maintainability.
  • Build and support web applications, internal portals, dashboards, and integration interfaces.
  • Partner with IT, finance, operations, sales, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Create reusable integration patterns, documentation, error handling, logging, and monitoring for production workflows.
  • Assist with data quality, data profiling, data mapping, and source-to-target validation.
  • Work with authentication, authorization, and identity platforms such as WorkOS or similar tools.
  • Support integrations involving ERP, CRM, service management, eSignature, document automation, analytics, and AI workflow platforms.
  • Troubleshoot production issues related to APIs, ETL jobs, workflows, databases, and application integrations.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Position Requirements:

  • Strong experience with Python development for data engineering, API integrations, automation, and backend services.
  • Strong SQL skills, including querying, joins, stored procedures, data validation, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Experience developing or consuming REST APIs, webhooks, JSON, XML, and other integration patterns.
  • Experience with PHP or similar backend web development languages.
  • Experience building workflows or automations using n8n
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms, preferably Snowflake.
  • Experience working with AWS services; AWS Bedrock experience preferred.
  • Experience building internal web applications, portals, dashboards, or business process tools.
  • Understanding authentication and authorization concepts such as OAuth, SAML, JWT, API keys, and role-based access control.
  • Ability to use AI-assisted development tools effectively while still understanding, validating, and securing the code produced.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across applications, databases, APIs, and workflow automation tools.
  • Ability to document technical designs, integration flows, dependencies, and support procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, Orchestrator, AIS, business functions, tables, or JDE integrations.
  • Experience integrating ERP, CRM, service management, billing, AR, AP, or financial systems.
  • Experience with Oracle databases, Microsoft SQL Server, or other enterprise relational databases.
  • Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, ELT/ETL patterns, and analytics enablement.
  • Experience with AWS Bedrock, AI agents, vector databases, RAG patterns, prompt engineering, or AI workflow automation.
  • Experience with WorkOS or other identity/access management platforms.
  • Experience with GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, containerized applications, and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, React, or similar web application frameworks.
  • Experience working in a mid-market enterprise environment with a mix of legacy systems and modern cloud platforms.
