User Experience (UX) Designer

Urban Legend

Alexandria, VA

$75K - $130K/yr

Job description

About Urban Legend

Urban Legend is a platform that empowers creators to promote issues that matter to them. We eliminate the hassle of traditional brand deals and give creators control over the issues they promote and the content they post.

Organizations with powerful ideas are finding it harder than ever to break through and reach new audiences. Creators are seeking more opportunities to use their voice for positive change and get rewarded for the results they drive. Urban Legend brings together these mission-driven organizations and creators who have the credibility, passion, and audience relationships to spark meaningful engagement.

The Role

We're looking for a UX Designer to join our product team and report directly to the SVP, Product. You'll work across the Urban Legend platform-creator experience, campaign management, advertiser tools, and analytics-on both mobile and web. This is a hands-on, craft-focused role. You'll take requirements from early concept through build-ready designs, own our design system in Figma, and raise the bar for how the product looks and feels. You'll partner closely with our product team on discovery and requirements, and with engineering to make sure what ships matches what was designed.

What You'll Do

  • Design end-to-end product experiences for features across the platform, including user flows, wireframes, interaction models, and high-fidelity screens.
  • Build and own our design system in Figma: components, variants, tokens, patterns, and the documentation that keeps them usable.
  • Deliver build-ready files that leave engineers with zero guesswork: clear annotations, empty and error states, edge cases, and responsive behavior all included.
  • Design for both mobile and web, ensuring each experience feels native to its surface rather than a port of the other.
  • Partner with the product team to turn PRDs and business rules into clear information architecture and interface copy that's consistent and on-brand.
  • Participate in discovery activities like user interviews, creator feedback sessions, and usability tests. Help synthesize and translate findings into design decisions.
  • Run design QA on implemented work, catching discrepancies before release and working with engineering to resolve them. Establish lightweight design practices that scale as the team grows.
  • Collaborate daily with engineering to pressure-test feasibility and find the version of a design that's both right and buildable. Improve the design of internal tooling and ops workflows, not just customer-facing surfaces.

What We're Looking For

  • 2-4 years of product or UX design experience. Startup, marketplace, adtech or creator economy experience is a plus.
  • A portfolio of shipped product work across both mobile and web. We want to see your thinking and how plans were realized.
  • Deep proficiency in Figma: components, variants, auto-layout, and prototypes. You work fast and your files are organized.
  • Experience building or meaningfully contributing to a design system, and the judgment to know when to extend a pattern versus create a new one.
  • Strong visual and interaction sensibility. You notice when spacing is off, when a flow has unnecessary friction, or when a component doesn't follow the system.
  • Solid understanding of how software is built. You can speak fluently with engineers about responsive behavior, technical constraints, and tradeoffs-even if you're not writing the code.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a self-directed streak. You'll often be defining the process as much as the product.
  • Clear communicator in writing as well as pixels - annotations, rationale, and interface copy are all part of the process.
  • Bias toward action. You'd rather ship and learn than polish forever.
  • A team player. This position is in-person in our Old Town, Alexandria office four days a week, with Fridays remote

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation
  • Health benefits package
  • Unlimited PTO
Employment Type: FULL_TIME
