What does an associate user experience designer do?

An Associate User Experience (UX) Designer assists in creating intuitive, user-friendly digital products such as websites and apps. They collaborate with senior designers and cross-functional teams to conduct user research, create wireframes, and test prototypes. Their work helps ensure that products not only look appealing but are also easy to use and meet the needs of their target audience. Typically, this is an entry-level position where individuals gain hands-on experience in UX design processes and tools.

What are some common challenges faced by associate user experience designers when starting out in the field?

Associate User Experience Designers often encounter challenges such as balancing user needs with business goals and working within existing design systems. Navigating feedback from multiple stakeholders—such as developers, product managers, and senior designers—can also be demanding, especially when priorities conflict. Additionally, new designers may need to quickly adapt to various research and prototyping tools, while learning how to effectively communicate their design decisions to both technical and non-technical team members. These experiences, though challenging, help build strong collaborative and problem-solving skills essential for career growth in UX.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate user experience designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate User Experience Designer, you need foundational skills in user research, wireframing, prototyping, and visual design, typically supported by a degree in design or a related field. Familiarity with design tools such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, and prototyping platforms is essential, and a basic understanding of HTML/CSS can be beneficial. Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills help you interpret user needs and work effectively with cross-functional teams. These skills enable you to create user-centric solutions and contribute to intuitive, impactful digital experiences.

Job description

UI/UX Designer MDC General context The organization operates in a complex technological environment combining a historical application landscape and modern components. The context includes a structural transformation of the IT landscape, modernization of architectures, reduction of technical debt, adoption of the Cloud and compliance with regulatory compliance, in particular NIS2. Existing applications cover critical areas such as unemployment regulation (payments, debt management, financial and accounting processing). Some of these systems are based on legacy technologies, while new Cloud/hybrid architectures are emerging. The architect plays a key role in harmonizing, securing and making these architectures coherent.

Main Responsibilities As a “UI/UX Designer” Proven experience in designing themes for Angular applications is required. Mastery of Angular components is an essential prerequisite. Excellent knowledge of responsive design as well as web accessibility standards is essential. Front‑end development skills are an added advantage. The designer’s mission will be to support us in the creation and structuring of a coherent style guide. This will notably cover defining styles for lists and their elements, buttons, the side navigation bar, the title bar, as well as other key components of the interface. The designer will also intervene to improve the existing layout, in order to make it clearer, more intuitive and more user‑friendly. This includes, for example, optimizing the use of list views leading to detailed views, as well as structuring and organizing navigation elements. Finally, particular attention should be paid to the accessibility of the theme for all users. As such, the choice of colors should take color vision deficiencies into account, and typography and font sizes should be selected to ensure optimal readability and clarity for users with varying visual needs.

Technical Skills
  • Proven experience (7+ years) in theme design for complex Angular applications.
  • Expertise in modern Java (Spring, microservices, API‑driven, event‑driven).
Behavioral Skills
  • Excellent analytical and synthesis skills.
  • Structured and educational communication.
  • Global vision and ability to keep an overview.
  • Quality orientation, autonomy and proactivity.
  • Ability to connect business needs and technical issues.
Education
  • Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
Language Skills
  • Very good command of French, Dutch.

Start date: 1 1/05/2026 (ASAP)
