The Associate Product Manager (APM) - Merchandising drives the delivery of merchandising products and tools that generate business value, improve efficiency, and fundamentally enhance the associate and customer experience. As a strategic product owner with a strong understanding of business analysis, product management, and software development cycles, the APM partners with leadership to define and execute the long-term product vision. Acting as a central hub between business and technology, the APM brings a customer- and associate-first mindset, utilizing strong analytical and leadership skills to guide cross-functional scrum teams from ideation to delivery. They are accountable for translating complex user needs into high-impact digital business solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Roadmap Planning

  • Champion a deep understanding of merchandising customers (associates, merchants, and customers) and their needs through research, data analysis, and proactive stakeholder engagement.
  • Lead competitive and market research to identify and integrate best-in-class merchandising and retail technology practices into the product strategy.
  • Define and own product goals, success metrics, and measures of value; leverage data to drive critical product decisions and justify technology investments.
  • Drive roadmap planning by defining strategic inputs, managing complex dependencies, and securing alignment across cross-functional partners.

Delivery Management and Execution

  • Lead the execution of merchandising product initiatives from ideation through delivery, directing the focus of agile scrum teams.
  • Own the assessment of complex trade-offs, dependencies, risks, and value associated with features to ensure optimal return on investment (ROI) for the business.
  • Drive the creation, refinement, and prioritization of user stories and epics within the product backlog.
  • Actively guide and participate in agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, demos, retrospectives) to ensure continuous delivery of value.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, non-technical language to influence and align business partners.
  • Manage and oversee product rollouts, comprehensive process documentation, and change management strategies to ensure successful adoption.
  • Direct testing activities, including defining test cases and validating user acceptance testing (UAT).

Team and Stakeholder Management

  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with Technology, UX, Data, and Merchandising teams, ensuring engineering solutions directly solve business and user needs.
  • Authoritatively communicate product roadmaps, updates, risks, and progress to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
  • Continuously build product management skills through feedback, coaching, and learning opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance product culture by sharing strategic learnings and driving overall team success.

Travel Requirements:

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time

Physical Requirements:

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles

On site Work:

  • On site - Mon to Fri (1 Concorde Gate, Norh York)

Working Conditions:

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable

Minimum Education:

  • University degree (4) year program or the knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelorโ€™s degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Minimum Years of Work Experience:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a product management, business analysis, or related role (retail, merchandising, ecommerce, or technology experience preferred)

Certifications:

  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) is highly preferred

Other Requirements/Assets:

  • Advanced capability in Microsoft Office 365
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, Airtable, Miro, is an asset
