Exciting Trade Advisory Opportunity to Help Make Global Trade EasyThe opportunity:

With revenue growing at breakneck speed, Flexport is looking for a Senior Trade Advisory Associate, Classification to join our team. In this role, you will execute and manage all classification projects with our clients and internal stakeholders. We also expect this role to support other trade advisory matters as we collectively challenge the status quo and reduce friction in global trade.

You will:
  • Help manage Flexport's HS classification service.
  • Work with clients and internal stakeholders to classify products under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States and similar global schedules.
  • Take ownership and actively manage HS classification projects with our clients and internal stakeholders to ensure efficient and proper transfer of product data.
  • Analyze, research, and assign proper HS classifications for products imported by our clients using the Harmonized Tariff System.
  • Audit HS classifications for accuracy.
  • Use your knowledge of Section 301 China tariffs and related exclusions.
  • Proactively stay informed on the latest updates to CBP regulations or rulings that impact classification for our client's products.
  • Maintain accurate client databases within our system including, product descriptions, SKUs, and import and export classifications.
  • Document and help improve classification processes and procedures.
  • Maintain professional communication with our clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Support Trade Advisory infrastructure and administrative requirements.
  • Assist the Trade Advisory team to resolve trade related questions and problems.
  • Assist the Trade Advisory team prepare client deliverables including memos and presentations.
You should have:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Licensed Customs Broker required, J.D. or graduate degree a plus.
  • Trade compliance experience working in house, at customs brokerage, or at a consulting firm preferred.
  • At least two (2) to four (4) years of experience in classification of a broad range of commodities, including apparel, machinery, and automotive.
  • Proficiency with global Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS)
  • Schedule B and Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) experience a plus.
  • Experience in reviewing government regulations and rulings, CBP Cross, USTR, Customs Info, Lexis Nexis, etc., and other trade information to assist with classification review.
  • A fundamental understanding of preferential trade programs, such as free trade agreements (FTAs) and Generalized System of Preferences (GSP)
  • Ability to navigate complex rules and regulations.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and detail-oriented with superior organizational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and within a team environment.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office suite and Google equivalents.
  • Mastery of email communication. You keep the inbox at zero.
  • High level of computer literacy. No paper. All digital.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage various project elements simultaneously.

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range displayed, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and / or training. Base salary is just one part of our total rewards package at Flexport, which also includes bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefit offerings such as medical, dental, and flexible time off.
The US base salary range for this position (this does not include bonus, equity and benefits):
$85,000—$110,000 USD
