Will AI replace testers?

AI can automate certain testing tasks such as regression testing and bug detection, but associate testers play a crucial role in designing test cases, analyzing complex issues, and ensuring software quality. Human judgment and domain knowledge remain essential in testing processes, making complete replacement unlikely in the near future.

What are some common challenges faced by Associate Testers in their day-to-day work?

Associate Testers often encounter challenges such as balancing tight deadlines with the need for thorough testing, quickly adapting to new software or updates, and effectively communicating bugs or issues to developers. They may also need to manage multiple testing tasks simultaneously while ensuring accurate documentation. Building a collaborative relationship with developers and other QA team members is essential for resolving issues efficiently and learning best practices for continuous improvement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Associate Tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Tester, you need a keen attention to detail, a basic understanding of software testing principles, and typically a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with testing tools like Selenium, JIRA, and basic knowledge of scripting languages is often required. Strong analytical thinking, communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively set top performers apart. These skills ensure accurate identification of defects, effective reporting, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality software products.

What are Associate Testers?

Associate Testers are entry-level professionals who help ensure the quality and functionality of software, games, or products by executing test cases, identifying bugs, and reporting defects to development teams. They often work under the supervision of senior testers or quality assurance leads, following established testing procedures and documentation standards. Their work is critical in finding issues before a product is released to customers, helping to improve user experience and reliability. Associate Testers may also assist with creating test documentation and reproducing issues reported by users.

Job description

The Associate Automation Engineer is an entry-level role designed to grow the next generation of automation engineering talent. You'll work alongside senior engineers to design, develop, test, and deploy automated manufacturing cells — gaining hands-on experience across controls, robotics, software, and system integration, with increasing ownership as you develop.

What You'll Do
  • Support senior Automation Engineers in the development, build, and commissioning of automated manufacturing cells.
  • Assist with system integration, assembly support, and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of automation equipment.
  • Participate in the development, testing, and troubleshooting of control systems, robotics, and automation software.
  • Contribute to programming and debugging across PLCs, robots, and higher-level software systems.
  • Help develop and modify HMIs, control logic, and feedback/control systems.
  • Support robotics integration, including setup, testing, and optimization of robotic cells.
  • Use CAD/CAM tools to support mechanical layouts, cell design concepts, and documentation.
  • Take part in commissioning and deployment activities at manufacturing sites, with occasional travel required.
  • Learn and apply engineering best practices, safety standards, and structured development methodologies under the guidance of experienced mentors.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts related to automation performance, reliability, and standardization.
What We're Looking For

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Foundational understanding of automation, control systems, and robotics principles.
  • Understanding of PLC programming, industrial networks, and HMI development.
  • Programming experience in one or more of the following: Python, Java, or C# is preferred
  • Working knowledge of control and feedback systems, as well as robotics and automated systems.
  • Exposure to CAD/CAM tools — NX preferred; academic or project experience is welcome.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a genuine eagerness to learn in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
  • Clear, effective communication skills and an analytical mindset.
  • Ability to manage shifting priorities and support multiple sites with a degree of independence.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% in support of automation builds and deployments.

Nice to Have

  • Internship, co-op, or project experience in automation, manufacturing, or robotics.
  • Familiarity with industrial automation hardware, sensors, and actuators.
  • A passion for advanced manufacturing and factory automation technologies.
