What does an associate technical engineer do?

An Associate Technical Engineer is an entry-level professional who assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of technical systems and solutions. They often work under the supervision of senior engineers to troubleshoot issues, conduct system tests, and support project deployments. Their responsibilities may include providing technical support, documenting processes, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. This role is ideal for individuals looking to grow their technical expertise and gain hands-on experience in engineering environments.

What are some typical challenges an associate technical engineer might face in their first year, and how can they overcome them?

In their first year, Associate Technical Engineers often encounter challenges such as adapting to new technologies, troubleshooting technical issues with limited experience, and understanding complex systems within a team environment. To overcome these challenges, it's helpful to actively seek mentorship from senior engineers, take advantage of internal training resources, and consistently document solutions for future reference. Open communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams also play a crucial role in building confidence and technical proficiency.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate technical engineer, and why are they important?

Job description

As an Associate Producer at Cloud Chamber, you will coordinate the work of technical and creative professionals to drive delivery of a fundamental part of our game. Utilizing your experience with Agile game development, expert communication skills, and overall good judgment, you will help your team navigate daily roadblocks and long-term risks to realize our ambitious vision for the future of BioShock.

What You'll Do:
  • Drive delivery of the AI Systems team, including all engineering, design, and related gameplay animation work.
  • Partner with Leads and other producers to develop a roadmap of goals to achieve long-term milestones.
  • Break down goals into a plan with actionable tasks, then follow through on delivery of those tasks across sprints, milestones, and longer-term deliverables.
  • Handle day-to-day tactical workflow issues, remove blockers, and coordinate dependencies across teams.
  • Proactively identify and resolve risks while ensuring their impact and status are well understood by stakeholders.
  • Manage daily communication loops with internal and external teams.
  • Deliver production artifacts including a well-groomed backlog, roadmap and resource plan, sprint tracking metrics, and regular reports.
What We'll Do Together:

At Cloud Chamber, we are champions of high standards, pushing for progress and embracing change. We will work closely and constructively across disciplines to realize our creative ambitions. Together, we will stay current on technological advancements and identify solutions to overcome developmental obstacles.

Skills & Experiences:
  • Prior experience working in a game production role with a cross-discipline team, preferably on a AAA game.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to understand detailed technical concepts and communicate them clearly to non-technical team members.
  • Familiarity with game development pipelines and commonly used game engines such as Unreal.
  • Fluent with standard production tools like Jira, Monday.com, Excel, Confluence, Perforce.
Who You Are:
  • Able to take ownership, ensuring that work is clear and problems are resolved, even when it's not directly your responsibility and even when you aren't sure where to start.
  • Oriented toward action, proactively resolving issues and driving with positive energy to maintain velocity.
  • Able to navigate the delicate balance between providing firm, well-organized structure for your team while being flexible to the changing needs of the game.
  • Naturally empathetic and able to foster a collaborative work environment that supports diverse viewpoints and healthy conflict.
  • Persistent, self-motivated, and able to operate with moderate autonomy.
  • Demonstrates good judgement.
  • Dedicated to upholding Cloud Chamber's core values, contributing to a positive and respectful company culture while striving for excellence in all endeavors.

Who We Are:

At Cloud Chamber we strive to make BioShock games that move people: evocative, immersive, and meaningful experiences that stay with you long after you've rolled credits. Great games are born from great collaborations, supported by a culture that brings out the best in our teams. We work openly, learn through play, take ownership, push ourselves to be better, and deliver for our players.

For candidates located in Quebec:
This position requires professional proficiency in both French and English. Proficiency in English is required to collaborate with our U.S. teams and international partners, as well as to handle specialized technical documentation (reading, writing, and communication).
