OVERVIEW

The Associate Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting the school districts server, network, cloud, and endpoint infrastructure. This role assists in maintaining the availability, security, and performance of enterprise systems while providing technical support for networking, virtualization, cloud services, identity management, and end-user technologies. The Associate Systems Engineer works closely with senior engineers on infrastructure projects, troubleshooting, system upgrades, and documentation while developing technical expertise across multiple IT disciplines.

Work Schedule

The standard work schedule for this position is from 8:30 PM to 5:30 PM and reports to the headquarters.

Employees are expected to maintain a flexible work schedule and may be required to adjust their hours based on operational priorities, maintenance windows, emergency response, or other business needs.

What You'll Do: 

Systems Administration

  • Administer and support Windows Server environments.
  • Perform Active Directory administration, including user accounts, groups, organizational units, and Group Policy.
  • Manage Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Teams, and OneDrive.
  • Support Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) identity and authentication services.
  • Monitor server health, performance, storage utilization, and system availability.
  • Install operating system updates, firmware, and security patches.
  • Assist with VMware vSphere virtualization platform
  • Assist with backup verification and disaster recovery testing.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, diagrams, and standard operating procedures.

Network Administration

  • Configure and support enterprise LAN, WAN, and wireless infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues involving switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless access points.
  • Configure VLANs, DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, and network routing.
  • Monitor network performance using network monitoring tools.
  • Assist with firewall rule implementation and network security policies.
  • Support remote access technologies and secure VPN connectivity.
  • Maintain structured cabling documentation and network diagrams.

Cloud & Identity Services

  • Support Microsoft Azure and hybrid cloud infrastructure.
  • Administer Microsoft Entra ID synchronization and authentication services.
  • Assist with Conditional Access policies and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
  • Support Single Sign-On (SSO) integrations with enterprise applications.
  • Monitor cloud resources for performance, availability, and security.

Security

  • Assist with Crowdstrike endpoint security platform.
  • Monitor security alerts and assist with incident response.
  • Support vulnerability remediation and patch management.
  • Review system logs and assist with compliance initiatives.
  • Participate in disaster recovery and cybersecurity exercises.

Endpoint & User Support

  • Serve as Tier II/III escalation for desktop and infrastructure issues.
  • Deploy and manage Windows endpoints using Microsoft Intune or equivalent MDM solutions.
  • Support printers, conferencing systems, mobile devices, and enterprise applications.
  • Troubleshoot authentication, email, and connectivity issues.

Project Participation

  • Assist with infrastructure upgrades and technology refresh projects.
  • Participate in server migrations, cloud initiatives, and network modernization.
  • Support implementation of new hardware and software solutions.
  • Work with vendors during installations and support engagements.
  • Recommend process improvements and automation opportunities.

What You'll Bring:  

Required

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2-4 years of experience supporting enterprise infrastructure.
  • Experience administering Windows Server environments.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
  • Basic networking knowledge including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, and wireless networking.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware).
  • Understanding of backup and disaster recovery concepts.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure or hybrid cloud environments.
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune and Endpoint Manager.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell scripting.
