Job description

Position Overview The Manager, Linux Platform is responsible for leading and managing the enterprise Linux platforms in corporate and distribution center environments. This hands‑on leadership role combines deep technical knowledge, exceptional problem‑solving skills, and the ability to balance strategic planning with tactical execution. This leader will manage a team of System Engineers and Administrators, set operational and project priorities, and serve as the final escalation point for complex issues impacting enterprise operations. A successful candidate will thrive in a high‑volume, fast‑paced off-price retail environment, ensuring that our platforms remain secure, performant, and available to meet business demands.

Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of 5-9 System Engineers and Administrators (FTEs & consultants), ensuring clear goals, performance metrics, and accountability.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage workload distribution, on‑call schedules, and succession planning for critical skills.
  • Negotiate and oversee vendor performance, ensuring adherence to SLAs and continuous service improvement.
  • Collaborate with Procurement and Finance to manage budgets, renewals, licenses, commercial engagements and cloud spend.
System Engineering and Administration
  • Oversee deployment, configuration, patching, upgrades, and tuning of RHEL & SUSE virtual servers.
  • Drive automation using Ansible, Terraform, Bash, and CI/CD tooling.
  • Spearhead cloud‑native container, serverless and PaaS modernization initiatives.
  • Support, optimize, and troubleshoot systems and related applications.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for production incidents, including root cause analysis (RCA) and permanent remediation.
  • Manage systems lifecycle and capacity planning, ensuring systems remain within vendor support and security guidelines.
  • Manage enterprise NAS, SAN and backup platforms.
Security, Compliance & Governance
  • Ensure all systems meet SOX, PCI-DSS and internal security policy requirements.
  • Manage auditing, encryption, and access controls.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date documentation of managed environments, configurations, and support procedures.
Operational Excellence
  • Ensure high availability and disaster recovery capabilities are tested and documented.
  • Manage observability and proactively address performance and availability.
  • Maintain a 24/7 support model for critical systems with defined SLAs for response and resolution.
Education and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of hands‑on Linux, DevOps or Platform Engineering experience, including SUSE or RHEL Servers in enterprise production environments.
  • 3+ years of experience managing a team of systems, DevOps or platform engineers.
  • Strong experience operating in public cloud environments like Azure, GCP or AWS.
  • Strong understanding of vSphere or similar virtualization technologies, compute, hardware and server management.
  • Experience with configuration management and automation tools, such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, etc…
  • Proven experience with monitoring and observability solutions like Datadog, Dynatrace, Nagios or SolarWinds.
  • Experience troubleshooting Linux kernel, authentication, storage, networking, services, and application dependencies.
  • Knowledge of backup technologies, such as Veeam, NetBackup and Rubrik.
  • Familiarity with enterprise NAS storage platforms, managing NFS and CIFS exports.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts, protocols, and services, including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, NTP, and VPN.
  • Solid understanding of systems security, auditing, and compliance frameworks (SOX / PCI).
  • Experience managing platforms in 24/7 mission‑critical environments.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively communicate technical concepts and solutions to technical, non‑technical and executive stakeholders.
  • Detail‑oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and stay updated with industry trends and advancements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a retail sector or other high‑volume transactional businesses.
  • Knowledge of databases and middleware technologies.
  • ITIL certification or familiarity with ITIL processes for change, incident, and problem management.
Physical Requirements
  • Standard office environment; extended periods at a computer workstation.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, during critical incidents or maintenances.
  • Ability to occasionally travel to various Burlington sites, within NJ and possibly out of state.
