Position Title: IT Systems Administrator
Reports to: Director of Information Technology
Department: Finance
Status: Exempt
Date: Revised March 2015
Broad Functions:
The IT System Administrator is responsible for designing, organizing, modifying, and supporting a company's computer systems. Under their purview is the design and installation of LANs, WANs, Internet and intranet systems, and network segments.
Main Responsibilities:
  1. Support LANs, WANs, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems.
  2. Maintain system efficiency.
  3. Ensure design of system allows all components to work properly together.
  4. Troubleshoot problems reported by users.
  5. Make recommendations for future upgrades.
  6. Maintain network and system security.
  7. Analyze and isolate issues.
  8. Monitor networks to ensure security and availability to specific users.
  9. Evaluate and modify system's performance.
  10. Identify user needs.
  11. Maintain integrity of the network, server deployment, and security.
  12. Ensure network connectivity throughout a company's LAN/WAN infrastructure is on par with technical considerations.
  13. Design and deploy networks.
  14. Perform network address assignment.
  15. Assign routing protocols and routing table configuration.
  16. Assign configuration of authentication and authorization of directory services.
  17. Maintain network facilities in individual machines, such as drivers and settings of personal computers as well as printers.
  18. Maintain network servers such as file servers, VPN gateways, intrusion detection systems.
  19. Administer servers, desktop computers, printers, routers, switches, firewalls, phones, personal digital assistants, smart phones, software deployment, security updates and patches.

Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor (4-year) degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science.
2. Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Unix and Microsoft.
3. Four to six years system administration experience.

They move about within the office to access file cabinets, documents, office machinery, and other equipment. They may also have to do some light lifting of supplies and materials from time to time. Occasionally move objects weighing up to 20 lbs., and sometimes, but rarely, up to 50 lbs.
