Job description

Position Title: Director of Supply Chain

Work Location: Chesapeake, VA - In Office

FLSA Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Summary of duties - Leads the organization's end-to-end supply chain operations through the management of supply chain personnel and the development and implementation of company policies and procedures. This includes all activities from sourcing requirements to procurement and distribution. Leads managers from the purchasing department, warehouse department and subcontracting departments. Requires a background in supply chain management, purchasing, logistics, receiving, and subcontracts. Must have expertise in improving and executing procurement management processes for continental US and international requirements. This includes experience in requirement forecasting, planning, purchasing, shipping and delivery, field distribution, and customer service.

Specific description of duties:

  • Directs and coordinates activities of all personnel engaged in the procurement of materials, equipment, supplies, and services through the managers of the purchasing and subcontracting departments.
  • Directs and coordinates all warehouse and shipping activities through the warehouse manager.
  • Manages the procurement process to ensure compliance with all public law requirements as well as corporate policies and procedures, import/export regulations, and employs sound business practices.
  • Follows company policy and FAR/DFARS guidelines to process and evaluate vendor performance. Uses appropriate negotiation and purchasing techniques to ensure quality, price, delivery, and service objectives are met.
  • Manages the evaluations and determines bid awards for procurements within the established procurement authority.
  • Negotiates and/or supervises the negotiation of complex requests for equipment, supplies, and services from suppliers and subcontractors exceeding Purchasing Manager's authority.
  • Takes corrective action with quality control personnel, customers, and vendors on defective or unacceptable goods or services.
  • Writes all supply chain procedures and work instructions to comply with current FAR/DFAR requirements and maintains them as they need to be updated.
  • Manages the review of purchase order file and documentation for completeness and correctness for procurements above the established purchasing authority.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with suppliers that provide best value, high-quality products and services while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct.
  • Partners with finance, contracts and operations departments to support all operational and corporate material and service needs.
  • Occasional travel outside the local area may be required

Education / Specialized training -

  • High School diploma or GED mandatory
  • Associate's degree and/or related Government contracting/purchasing experience.
  • Minimum 15 year's experience in Supply Chain Management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, well-developed interpersonal skills, effective negotiation skills.
  • Thorough understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulations, contract law, price and cost analysis techniques required.

Security Clearance -

  • Clearance up to secret level may be required.
  • US Citizenship required.
