Job Summary
Ensures the safety of patrons at the aquatic facilities by preventing and responding to emergencies, providing good customer service to patrons, and keeping the facility clean.
Primary Duties
May include but are not limited to the following:
  • Responsible for the safety and welfare of the patrons and staff in the aquatic's facility
  • Aware of all safety policies, regulations, and emergency procedures.
  • Greet swimmers with a positive attitude and ensure they swipe into the facility.
  • Familiar with the unique safety concerns of the programs offered in each facility.
  • Attentive on the guard stand at all times.
  • Efficiently handle any emergency situations as described by the Aquatics Manual
  • Calmly handle any situation that may arise with any patron.
  • Act professionally towards co-workers, professional staff, and most importantly, patrons.
  • Work closely with other staff members to maintain high efficiency in the aquatics program.
  • Be professional in appearance and attitude while on duty.
  • Prepare the aquatics facility for opening and/or closing each day.
  • Complete incident reports
  • Record hourly chemical checks and report to the lead guard or student manager on duty.
  • Report any maintenance or supply needs using the QR posted in the office.
  • Perform additional tasks assigned by the lead guards, student managers, or Associate Director.

Other Requirements for the Position
Requirements
  • Must have and maintain valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
  • Attend and actively participation in regularly scheduled staff in services and meetings
  • Complete all mandated SHSU HR trainings
