Job description

Job Summary

Location: Tampa, FL, United States. Required Travel: 11–25%. Employment Type: Full Time/Salaried/Exempt. Anticipated Salary Range: $78,406.00–$135,000.00. Security Clearance: Top Secret. Requisition Number: 29316. Level of Experience: MidHI. The Software Engineer role resides with All‑Domain Operations (ADO) within HII’s Mission Technologies division, supporting multi‑domain operations, platforms, logistics, and intelligence operations.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, document, test, and debug software applications and systems with logical and mathematical foundations.
  • Conduct multi‑disciplinary research and collaborate with hardware engineers and equipment designers on electronic data‑processing system development.
  • Determine user needs and analyze system capabilities to resolve issues related to program intent, outputs, inputs, programming techniques, and controls.
  • Develop operating instructions, compilers, assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.
  • Perform software maintenance activities to enhance performance, stability, and reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with software engineering standards, quality guidelines, and development best practices.
  • Analyze user requirements and evaluate design feasibility based on schedule, cost, and resource constraints.
  • Implement Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) standards to deliver open‑systems military aviation solutions that improve delivery speed and affordability.
  • Plan and execute technology insertion and system‑refresh activities to enhance system capabilities.
  • Collaborate with systems analysts, engineers, and programmers to identify system limitations, capabilities, and interface requirements.
  • Design, develop, and modify software using scientific and mathematical models to predict design outcomes and impacts.
  • Coordinate software system installations and monitor equipment performance to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Apply Agile, DevOps, and DevSecOps methodologies to modernize software development processes.
  • Develop software for image and video manipulation and enhancement as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Level 2: 2 years relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; 0 years experience with a Master’s degree in a related field; or a High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years relevant experience.
  • Level 3: 5 years relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; 3 years relevant experience with a Master’s degree in a related field; or a High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Level 4: 9 years relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; 7 years relevant experience with a Master’s degree in a related field; or a High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.
  • Professional experience designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software applications or systems.
  • Strong understanding of logical and mathematical modeling as applied to software architecture and algorithm development.
  • Experience collaborating with hardware engineers and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to analyze user requirements and determine appropriate programming solutions.
  • Proficiency in developing compilers, operating systems, utility programs, or similar low‑level system components (preferred but may vary by role).
  • Experience with open‑systems architectures such as FACE is highly desirable.
  • Strong software‑maintenance skills and experience optimizing system performance.
  • Familiarity with Agile, DevOps, and DevSecOps methodologies.
  • Ability to perform feasibility analyses related to cost, schedule, and technical constraints.
  • Experience developing software using scientific analysis and mathematical models.
  • Ability to coordinate installations and monitor system behavior to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills for coordinating across engineering and analysis teams.
  • Clearance: Must possess and maintain a Top‑Secret clearance.
