Civil Engineering Intern | Rock Island, IL

This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities.
IMEG is hiring a Civil Engineering Intern in Rock Island, IL to support engineering analysis, design, field inspections, report writing, permit applications, and site drainage and grading design. Over 10-12 weeks, you will gain hands-on experience while learning the civil engineering trade alongside experienced engineers and consultants. You will contribute to project documentation, coordination, and job site observations while helping the team work within project budgets and meet project goals and client expectations. This role supports municipal, transportation, and public works projects, delivering resilient, environmentally responsible infrastructure.

What You'll Do
  • Assist with civil design work in accordance with code and IMEG standards
  • Research commercially available equipment and resources
  • Support client relations, project design notebooks, and permanent record documentation
  • Coordinate design and scheduling with other disciplines and suppliers
  • Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project progress
  • Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check
  • Assist with preparing and issuing addendum information
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and other services required by the contract services agreement

  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required
  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CAD software and BIM

State of Illinois Pay Range: $22.00-$24.00 per hour
The range listed above represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. For positions available in multiple locations, the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location.
Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate's experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications.
