Job description

Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer- Fabrication

Department: Engineering

FLSA Status: Exempt


About the Role:

The Fabrication Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for New Part Introduction (NPI) & process optimization of sheet metal, tube frame, welded components and large assemblies. This involves reviewing customer drawings & CAD models to ensure tolerances match process capability and providing Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback to the customer. The engineer will work across functional departments such as Estimating, Customer Service, Production, Quality & Sales to support NPI. In addition to NPI this role will help improve existing processes on the shop floor to reduce cycle times, scrap or improve organization. This position will work in an Aerospace environment meeting AS9100 quality standards & in a fabrication shop that is CMMC 2.0 certified.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or associate’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. Experience may be substituted in lieu of an engineering degree
  • Understanding of sheet metal fabrication equipment or the willingness to spend time on the manufacturing floor to learn these processes hands on
  • Proficiency with CAD software for part modeling & engineering drawings
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in all windows based programs
  • Knowledge of quality control methodologies and manufacturing safety standards

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using Solidworks for CAD, Trumpf/Amada software for programming fabrication equipment, Miller Intellipath for programming welding robots & Paperless Parts for quoting
  • Experience working in an AS9100 & CMMC 2.0 environment
  • Hands-on experience with punch/laser combos, press brakes, robotic welding & powder coating
  • Experience working directly with customers for DFM
  • Knowledge of how to use Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles
  • Knowledge of scripting languages like Python

Responsibilities:

  • Support NPI to meet customer deadlines by preparing customer files for production in the form of process models & drawings
  • Spending time on the manufacturing floor producing first time runs directly with production for large assemblies
  • Specifying & ordering tooling for forming & punching operations
  • Designing fixtures for robotic or manual welding & programming welding robots
  • Supporting process improvement on the production floor
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for defects or process deviations.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects focused on reducing cycle times and scrap.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards throughout the manufacturing process.

Skills:

The Fabrication Manufacturing Engineer utilizes technical skills in CAD software daily for solid modeling & engineering drawing creation. Strong analytical skills are essential for troubleshooting production issues and implementing effective solutions that enhance quality and efficiency. Communication skills are critical when collaborating with cross-functional teams and training production personnel on new procedures. Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies supports continuous improvement efforts to reduce waste and improve cycle times

This position operates in both office and manufacturing floor environments. Exposure to noise, machinery, temperature variation, and industrial conditions may occur when accessing plant areas.
