Job description

Job Title: Embedded Software Application Engineer – ADAS Systems (Experienced)Job Description

Seeking a senior ADAS systems leader who can integrate advanced driver assistance technologies into commercial vehicles, coordinate global engineering teams, drive validation and issue resolution, and support successful product launches. In this role, you support the integration, configuration, validation, and launch readiness of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Active Safety features for North American commercial vehicle platforms. You work closely with software development teams, system architects, validation engineers, product owners, and vehicle integration teams to investigate software and vehicle-level issues, support software deployments, validate system functionality, and drive rapid issue resolution. This position is ideal for a hands-on engineering consultant who enjoys working at the intersection of software, hardware, sensors, vehicle integration, and validation, and who understands how radar and camera systems are packaged, integrated, calibrated, configured, and validated in real-world vehicle applications.

Responsibilities
  • Support software integration, baseline deployment, and validation activities for ADAS and Active Safety systems across multiple commercial vehicle platforms.
  • Lead integration of ADAS features into North American truck platforms, ensuring proper coordination of software, sensors, cameras, radar, and vehicle systems.
  • Integrate and verify embedded software across multiple ECUs, sensors, cameras, and vehicle variants to ensure robust system performance.
  • Perform vehicle-level diagnostics, including CAN analysis and log investigations, to identify and resolve root causes of system issues.
  • Support validation of features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keeping Assistance (LKA), Lane Centering, and other driver assistance functions.
  • Investigate sensor, radar, camera, network communication, and software interaction issues that affect ADAS and Active Safety performance.
  • Evaluate the impact of sensor packaging, mounting locations, calibration requirements, environmental influences, and vehicle architecture on ADAS system performance.
  • Support software release management, variant management, feature enablement, and software configuration activities across multiple vehicle platforms and product classes.
  • Collaborate with global engineering teams and suppliers to resolve software defects, integration issues, and launch blockers, and to align on technical decisions.
  • Support issue management through defect tracking systems, providing clear technical recommendations and corrective actions for identified problems.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including software baseline records, software bills of materials (BOMs), variant documentation, integration guides, and validation reports.
  • Define and execute validation and testing plans for ADAS and Active Safety features, including HIL, SIL, and vehicle testing environments where applicable.
  • Support vehicle integration activities throughout development, validation, launch, and continuous improvement phases, ensuring successful program milestones and validation gates.
  • Drive timely root cause analysis and issue resolution to improve ADAS feature maturity, software stability, and overall system performance.
  • Effectively manage software variants, configurations, and baseline implementation across different vehicle platforms and product classes.
  • Provide practical engineering recommendations that improve vehicle performance, quality, safety, and customer experience.
  • Work across hardware, software, and vehicle systems, influencing stakeholders without direct authority and driving cross-functional technical decisions.
  • Support product roadmap alignment, regulatory compliance considerations, and launch readiness activities for ADAS and Active Safety programs.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in automotive embedded systems, vehicle electronics, software integration, system validation, or ADAS development.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle communication networks, including CAN, Ethernet, LIN, and UDS diagnostics.
  • Hands-on experience using network and diagnostics tools such as CANoe, CANalyzer, Vehicle Spy, Wireshark, or similar analysis tools.
  • Experience with software configuration management, software baselines, and release processes in an automotive or commercial vehicle environment.
  • Working knowledge of C and C++ for embedded software, along with practical experience in Python for scripting or analysis tasks.
  • Experience with JIRA or similar defect and issue management tools to track and resolve software and system problems.
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills applied to complex software, sensor, and vehicle-level issues.
  • Ability to work independently, quickly become productive, and operate effectively in a fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Industry background in automotive, commercial vehicles, ADAS, autonomous driving, active safety, or advanced electronics.
  • Experience working with OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers in the automotive or commercial vehicle sector.
  • Comfortable working across hardware, software, and vehicle systems, with proven experience in system-level integration rather than component-only focus.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in automotive engineering, particularly in leading complex feature development or vehicle integration programs.
  • Experience with ADAS, Active Safety, or automated driving systems in commercial vehicles or heavy-duty trucks.
  • Understanding of radar, camera, ultrasonic, and other vehicle sensor technologies used in driver assistance and safety systems.
  • Experience with sensor and camera packaging, mounting strategies, calibration processes, and vehicle integration considerations.
  • Understanding of how environmental conditions, vehicle configuration, and installation tolerances influence ADAS and Active Safety performance.
  • Basic hardware and electronics knowledge, including ECU architecture, vehicle power distribution, grounding concepts, wiring harnesses, connectors, sensor interfaces, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Experience with software baselines, software BOMs, software configuration management, and compatibility analysis across multiple platforms.
  • Understanding of vehicle variant structures, feature coding, parameter management, software dependencies, and product-class-specific configurations.
  • Familiarity with AUTOSAR architecture and functional safety concepts, including ISO-related practices for automotive systems.
  • Experience with HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop), SIL (Software-in-the-Loop), or vehicle testing environments for validation and verification.
  • Experience supporting field issue investigations and customer-reported concerns, including on-vehicle diagnostics and data analysis.
  • background in systems engineering, requirements engineering, and product development for automotive software and ADAS systems.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple engineering teams and global locations.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority, driving technical decisions and alignment among cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience with commercial vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, or off-highway vehicles.
  • Exposure to functional safety, active safety, autonomous driving technologies, and advanced electronics in vehicle applications.
Work Environment

This role operates in a dynamic engineering environment focused on advanced driver assistance and active safety systems for commercial vehicles and heavy-duty trucks. You collaborate closely with global engineering teams, suppliers, and cross-functional stakeholders, working across software, hardware, sensors, and vehicle integration activities from early development through launch and continuous improvement. Day-to-day work involves using tools such as CANoe, CANalyzer, Vehicle Spy, Wireshark, JIRA, and various diagnostics and simulation environments (HIL, SIL, and vehicle testing) to analyze network communication, validate features, and resolve complex system issues. The environment emphasizes rapid problem-solving, clear documentation, and structured configuration management of software baselines and variants. Work is typically performed in a mix of office, lab, and vehicle test settings, where you may interact directly with commercial vehicles and test platforms to evaluate ADAS performance under real-world conditions. The culture values collaboration, technical excellence, and practical engineering solutions that enhance vehicle safety, performance, and customer experience, while supporting major program milestones and successful product launches.
