Join our team at Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Business Development Associate on the Biotech Solutions team in Patheon CDMO services. This role is designed for a proven hunter with deep Biotech experience who excels at identifying whitespace, opening new accounts, and converting early-stage scientific engagement into partnerships. This role is meant to feed into a future Business Development Executive role.

Day in the life:

The successful candidate will drive new logo acquisition by positioning Thermo Fisher’s integrated capabilities across small and large molecule drug substance manufacturing, sterile drug product fill and finish, advanced therapies, and oral solid dose manufacturing. In this role, you'll prospect for new leads, qualify opportunities, and engage with potential clients to understand their needs and demonstrate our value proposition. You'll work closely with Business Development Executives to drive growth initiatives, coordinate customer communications, and manage the sales pipeline through our CRM system. Success in this role comes from building strong relationships, delivering effective presentations, and implementing strategic sales plans to achieve revenue targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify, research, and qualify new business opportunities, target accounts, and prospective clients.

  • Conduct outbound prospecting through email, phone, LinkedIn, networking, and other business development channels.

  • Engage prospects to understand their needs, challenges, and decision-making processes while clearly communicating the company’s value proposition.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with prospects, clients, partners, and internal stakeholders.

  • Partner with Business Development Executives to support growth initiatives, customer communications, and opportunity development.

  • Assist in developing and executing territory sales plans to drive pipeline growth and support revenue targets.

  • Prepare presentations, proposals, and supporting materials for prospective clients and business opportunities.

  • Maintain accurate CRM records, including prospecting activity, client interactions, opportunity status, and pipeline updates.

  • Coordinate meetings, follow-ups, and handoffs to senior business development or sales leaders as appropriate.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, marketing, product, and leadership teams to support business development priorities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Life Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field.

  • MBA or postgraduate scientific degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceutical industry, or CDMO environment, preferably with some sales or business development experience. Consideration is inclusive of advanced degree educational experience.

  • Highly competitive, self-directed, and results-driven mindset.

  • Comfortable conducting outreach and engaging with new contacts.

  • Excellent research, organization, and follow-up skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a matrix organization and influence without direct authority

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities to develop strategic solutions.

  • Willingness to travel up to 50 percent to meet customers, go to conferences, and showcase Thermo Fisher sites.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $82,500.00–$123,750.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
