Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Program Steward: Aid in the management, administration, and continuous improvement of all site Health, Safety, and Environmental programs, including machine safety, hazardous energy control (LOTO), chemical safety, industrial hygiene, laboratory chemical hygiene, fire safety, HAZCOM, PPE, NFPA 70E, emergency evacuation, and confined space programs. Coordinate with external contractors and consultants to support training and compliance initiatives.

  • Engagement Champion: Lead EHS engagement activities in assigned production areas, including participating in Tier and shift start-up meetings, following up on associate concerns, mentoring safety representatives, reviewing Environmental & Safety Observations (ESOs), and supporting site continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Safety Culture Advocate: Partner with the EHS Manager and EHS Sub-Component Teams to proactively improve safety performance, evaluate risks and incidents, identify opportunities for improvement, and support implementation of preventative actions and safety initiatives.

  • Investigation Leader: Collaborate with management to conduct accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions. Support OSHA recordkeeping, case tracking, and corporate incident reporting processes.

  • Data Storyteller: Collect, analyze, and report key EHS performance metrics, including incident data, hours worked, headcount, Environmental & Safety Observations (ESOs), leadership participation, and notices of violation.

  • Ergonomics Partner: Support the site's Ergonomics Program by coordinating evaluations, serving as a resource for associates, and partnering with the Occupational Health Nurse and EHS team to identify ergonomic improvements and reduce injury risk.

  • Training Champion: Assist in the management of the site's EHS Training Program by delivering training, maintaining curriculum accuracy, coordinating assignments, tracking completion, and supporting site compliance requirements.

  • Program Architect: Review, develop, and update EHS programs, SOPs, and Work Instructions to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and BD Corporate EHS standards.

  • Compliance Auditor: Conduct regulatory evaluations, inspections, and assessments. Prepare reports, communicate findings, and support corrective actions that strengthen site compliance and operational excellence.

  • Accountability Driver: Conduct verification checks of compliance calendar activities and coordinate required inspections, documentation, and drills, including pressure vessel inspections, eyewash inspections, and emergency evacuation exercises.

  • Risk Assessment Specialist: Perform risk assessments and process evaluations to identify hazards and determine appropriate engineering and administrative controls. Support Management of Change activities and implementation of safety and environmental controls.

  • Regulatory Steward: Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, federal, and BD environmental, health, and safety regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Quality Partner: Support BD quality objectives through consistent application of quality policies, procedures, and sound quality assurance principles.

  • Continuous Learner: Maintain awareness of regulatory requirements affecting assigned responsibilities, participate in required training, and elevate compliance concerns and improvement opportunities to management.

  • Awareness Builder: Promote safety awareness through employee engagement, safety campaigns, training programs, departmental inspections, and the identification and correction of workplace hazards.

  • Team Contributor: Perform other duties as assigned in support of site EHS, compliance, and operational excellence objectives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, or other relevant degree field.

  • 3 years leading EHS processes in a manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Functional Safety Certifications (Certified Safety Specialist, Certified Industrial Hygienist), or Six Sigma Green or Black Belt is a plus.

  • Experience in Fire Loss and Prevention activities including involvement with insurance carrier.

  • Experience designing and implementing strategies/programs/processes that support a business strategy.
