Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Estimator is responsible for the management and leadership of the Estimating Department. The job of the Senior Estimator is to provide estimating services for customers, Sales staff, and project management to secure work for the company. The Senior Estimator will routinely work with executive management providing updates and ongoing analysis of estimating activities. They will also serve in a leadership position for our company with our customers during the preconstruction process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop relationships with General Contractors, Architects, Owners, and Consultants that lead to opportunities for Glenn Rieder
  • Develop, train, and provide leadership for the Estimating Department
  • Identify ways to improve contract gross margin during the bidding process
  • Review estimates provided by estimating team for accuracy
  • Participate in developing strategies to win projects with the Director of Preconstruction and President
  • Assigns responsibilities for estimating team on each project.
  • Reviews contract documents and coordinates with the team to confirm complete scope.
  • Summarize and review the final estimates with the Director of Preconstruction and President. Highlight risks and opportunities for profit improvement.
  • Review GR project proposals prior to submission for correct written inclusions, exclusions, and qualifications.
  • Develop and maintain a quality control program for the Estimating Department and its work product.
  • Identify risk issues and their order of magnitude
  • Solicit subcontractor and/or supplier information & pricing Prepares conceptual budgets based on minimal information.
  • Coordinates insurance requirements with the Risk Manager.
  • Coordinates technical proposal requirements with Marketing Department.
  • Maintains and communicates data on material cost trends affecting project costs.
  • Analyze alternate means and methods to determine the most economic alternative during the bidding process
  • Look to continuously improve processes for more efficient output and bidding
  • Builds effective relationships with customers, design team, specialty contractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meet or exceed the customer's expectations.
  • Actively participates in industry, client, and community relations to enhance company image.
  • Participate in the transfer of information on successful projects including the Job Kick-off Meeting
  • Assist in o Good Faith Efforts as required o Performs and/or manages the quantity survey and pricing effort for internal budgets. Pricing of change impacts as required
  • Performs other related duties as needed
  • Tracks hit rate for individual estimators and salespeople and uses this info to make changes to achieve improved results

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Qualified candidates will have an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • Minimum 7 years of estimating/project management experience in the construction field
  • Ability to lead a team in a collaborative manner
  • Previous experience in the millwork industry is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in problem-solving/analysis
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, organize, and implement alternate solutions to challenges.
  • Strong sense of urgency
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times
  • Internet savvy with competence in Microsoft Office applications. Strong MS Excel proficiency
