Commercial Analytics Associate

Location/Houston (Hybrid)

Job Summary

As Commercial Analytics Associate, you will join our U.S. Commercial Analytics team! In this role, you will report to the Director Commercial Analytics and will have the opportunity to support the design, implementation, and management of ContourGlobal's commercial analytics function in the U.S., building data infrastructure and quantitative modeling tools to optimize energy trading, manage portfolio risk, and generate asset-level insights. Key Responsibilities:

  • Enable Data-Driven Decisions
    • Deliver insight-driven recommendations to support trading, origination, and risk mitigation
    • Collaborate across Asset Management, M&A, and Business Development teams to embed analytics into key commercial workflows
    • Assist in managing consultants and advisors with the evaluation of scenario inputs and results.
  • Develop Quantitative Models
    • Support development of advanced models for forecasting, pricing, risk management, and asset optimization
    • Assist in establishing scalable analytics processes, tools, and governance frameworks to support real-time and long-term commercial decision-making
    • Modeling of BESS, solar, gas-generating resources, as well as the overall regional portfolio
    • Support structuring of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), fuel procurement strategies, and market bidding decisions.

Design & Manage Data Infrastructure and Analytics Function

    • Build and maintain a robust data architecture that integrates market, asset, trading, and financial data
    • Develop automated pipelines and storage solutions to support large-scale, real-time energy data
    • Ensure data quality, consistency, and accessibility across the commercial organization
    • Develop dashboards and reporting tools to enhance visibility into portfolio and asset performance.

Qualifications and Skills: 

Your profile is a natural match if you have: 

4+ years of experience in commercial analytics, quantitative modeling, or data architecture.

Expertise in programming and data manipulation (e.g., R, Python, SQL, MatLab or similar) and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau or similar).

Experience with setting and maintaining data pipelines using API.

Familiar with portfolio risk including GMaR, VaR and other related merics.

Basic understanding operations and modeling for renewable (solar, wind and BESS) and gas-fired technologies

Experience within the energy, utilities, or commodity trading sectors is desired.

Familiarity with U.S. power, gas, REC markets and evolving market changes is desired.

Familiarity with power optimization and/or risk software (Promod, Plexos, cQuant or similar) is desired.

Bachelor's degree required, Master's in a quantitative or business field preferred.

Skills:

Strong background in time-series forecasting, optimization, or machine learning

Experience building dashboards and reports

Strong skills for scenario modeling and ad hoc analysis

Exposure to big data environments and modern data warehousing tools

Expertise in scalable data infrastructure, including data pipelines, storage, cloud platforms, and governance frameworks

Familiarity with energy modeling, trading, and risk management platforms and their integration with commercial operations and investment decisions

Working Conditions:

This role may require occasional domestic and international travel to visit own assets, support global teams and attend industry events.

The position is typically based in a corporate office setting, with the hybrid work schedule.
