Card Risk Principal Associate (Hybrid)

Risk Managers at Capital One are highly motivated Risk Management professionals with excellent organizational and communication skills. They have a high level of exposure across lines of business and have the opportunity to work with executives to create and implement innovative solutions to identify and mitigate potential risks to the company.

The Vertical Risk Manager (VRM) within Card Risk Data, Models, Decisioning & Credit ("DMDC") supports Decisioning as a Service (DaaS), providing risk framework guidance across product, platforms, and the well managed execution of processes. VRMs act as the first line of defense, leading, advising, and innovating on top transformational initiatives while partnering with business leaders to identify and mitigate potential risks to Capital One. This role offers a high level of exposure across lines of business, where VRMs collaborate with Executives and their teams to deliver risk solutions that directly impact customer experience and ensure Capital One's continued growth and success.

General Responsibilities:

  • Consult on risk to business partners providing advice and guidance as required

  • Perform risk reviews during various processes such as Risk Control and Self Assessments (RCSAs), Process Level Assessments (PLA), Issues and Events, LAUNCH Assessments, Targeted Risk Assessments and recommend on risk mitigation activities.

  • Serve as a liaison, interfacing with business partners, and other assurance functions (i.e. legal & compliance), to drive meaningful reductions in risk

  • Support internal audits and exams

  • Collaborate effectively across multiple levels and organizations to achieve business objectives and support organizational priorities in a timely and efficient manner

  • Demonstrate thought leadership in providing risk guidance to business partners in implementing risk management practices

  • Develop management reporting based on risk assessments to demonstrate overall process health

  • Synthesize data and perform analysis to bring valuable business insights to the Card businessStay current on the changing regulatory environment and understand the impacts to your businesses

  • Assess controls, and glean insights from issues and events across business areas

  • Design, implement, and/or influence internal governance processes

  • Connecting the dots of the changing strategic and operational priorities and risk environment and partnering with other risk advisors and business to understand the impacts

  • Demonstrate outstanding communication and partnership skills, which are essential for interacting and communicating with key stakeholders across all levels to manage, inform, and influence outcomes

  • Supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients in many forms such as advisor, project manager, or performer

Basic qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification

  • At least 1 year of risk management or compliance experience

  • At least 2 years of project or process management experience

  • At least 2 years of experience supporting, partnering, and interacting with internal business clients

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience

  • 1+ years of experience facilitating and conducting Risk Assessments

  • 1+ years of experience developing presentations for senior stakeholders

  • 1+ years of experience reporting and analyzing data

  • 3+ years of financial services or risk management experience

  • 4+ years of project or process management experience

  • 4+ years of experience supporting, partnering, and interacting with internal business clients

  • Professional certifications within risk management or assurance (Certified Risk Management Professional, Certified Internal Auditor).

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $120,800 - $137,900 for Principal Risk Specialist


Richmond, VA: $109,900 - $125,400 for Principal Risk Specialist










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
