Senior Hardware/Electrical Engineer Cupertino, CA
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Hardware Engineer (Electrical Engineer) to lead all electrical engineering activities for our access control hardware products. This role requires a seasoned professional who can design robust, compliant electrical systems that perform reliably in demanding environments. You will work closely with our Senior Mechanical Engineer to deliver integrated hardware solutions, owning all aspects of electrical design from component selection through production validation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end electrical design for all access control hardware products, from concept through production
  • Lead component selection and qualification based on performance, reliability, and cost optimization criteria
  • Design and optimize PCB schematics and layouts for manufacturability, signal integrity, and thermal performance
  • Drive electrical Design for Manufacturing (DFM) initiatives to ensure robust, scalable production processes
  • Execute comprehensive electrical validation programs including functional, performance, and reliability testing
  • Manage compliance activities including EMC testing, FCC certification, and international regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate closely with Mechanical Engineering on integrated system design, thermal management, and mechanical constraints
  • Conduct failure analysis and root cause investigations with statistical rigor and documented corrective actions
  • Develop and execute validation plans with quantitative pass/fail criteria and statistical quality thresholds
  • Mentor junior engineers and establish electrical engineering best practices and design standards

Required Qualifications
  • 7-10 years of electrical engineering experience in electronics product development
  • Proven track record designing electrical systems for products deployed in diverse environmental conditions
  • Advanced proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Altium Designer, KiCad, or equivalent)
  • Strong background in analog and digital circuit design, power management, and signal integrity
  • Experience with component selection including reliability analysis, qualification testing, and supply chain considerations
  • Knowledge of EMC/EMI design principles and experience with compliance testing and certification processes
  • Proficiency in electrical validation including automated test equipment, data acquisition, and statistical analysis
  • Expertise in Design for Manufacturing including assembly processes, test strategies, and yield optimization
  • Experience with microcontrollers, embedded systems, and firmware integration considerations
  • Knowledge of power electronics including switching regulators, battery management, and thermal considerations
  • Experience with failure analysis tools including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and thermal imaging
  • High-speed digital design experience with DDR, USB, Ethernet, and other communication interfaces
  • Camera and imaging system integration including sensor interfaces, optics, and image processing pipelines
  • Project management experience with ability to coordinate multiple concurrent design projects
  • Excellent communication skills for technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration
  • Strong documentation skills for design reviews, compliance submissions, and technical specifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field

Preferred Qualifications
  • RF antenna design experience, including impedance matching, radiation patterns, and integration challenges
  • Wireless communication protocols experience (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular) and regulatory compliance
