Photovoltaics Researcher
Associate Researcher
NASA Glenn Research Center
Brook Park, Ohio
HX5 is an award-winning provider of engineering, research and development, and technical services to clients such as NASA and the Department of Defense. Founded in 2004, HX5 is a fast-growing veteran- and woman-owned company with locations nationwide.
HX5, LLC is seeking an individual for its Materials Engineering department to augment the development and construction of high efficiency solar cells for nascent space applications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will be responsible for process development, optimization, device Integration, architecture, characterization, analysis, scale-up, yield Improvement, and laboratory operating procedures for the development of photovoltaic cells.
Required Skills:
  • Experience with the film deposition techniques of evaporation, sputtering, and reactive CVD.
  • Experience fabricating and testing solar cells with novel materials including thin film silicon, perovskite solar cells, and III-V's specifically GaAs.
  • Practical knowledge related to the manufacturing limitations of solar cells using novel materials.

Other Desired Skills:
  • Familiarity with techniques such as solar simulation, quantum efficiency, hall measurements, current vs voltage, capacitance vs voltage, and microscopy.
  • Experience with high vacuum and vacuum based deposition techniques.
  • Strong technical report writing skills.

Education/Experience:
  • Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Metallurgical Engineering with up to 5 years of experience.

Other Position Requirements:
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
