Position Summary
This job description is intended to convey information important to the scope of this position and it is not intended to be an exhaustive list of skills, efforts, duties, responsibilities or working conditions associated with the position.
The Instruction & Rentals Desk Staff position helps create a welcoming, organized, and guest-focused experience by assisting guests with lesson reservations, rental products, program information, and general mountain questions in a fast-paced environment. This position is responsible for accurately processing instruction and rental sales while helping guests navigate lesson options, rental needs, ability levels, and operational logistics to support a positive and successful mountain experience.
Successful employees in this role are dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable engaging with a wide variety of guests and situations throughout the day. This position requires strong communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to develop a strong working knowledge of lesson programs, rental operations, ski area procedures, facilities, and services in order to effectively assist guests and support daily operations. Employees in this role are expected to maintain confidentiality and security within the instruction sales area while contributing to a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented workplace culture.
General Responsibilities:
  • Perform rental equipment and instruction program sales accurately and proficiently while providing friendly and respectful customer service and maintaining confidentiality and security
  • Create and participate in a positive and inclusive workplace.
  • Have a working knowledge of:
  • Mt. Baker Ski Area mountain policies and procedures
  • Familiarity of ski area facilities and services available
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of instruction sales area at all times
  • Perform duties as trained

Qualifications:
  • Willingness to learn
  • Successful completion of instruction & rental desk training by an authorized Mt. Baker Ski Area trainer
  • General familiarity, basic understanding and willingness to learn about ski and snowboard rentals and ski and snowboard instruction programs and features

Wage & Hour Information:
  • This is a seasonal, variable hour position. Hours per week may vary between 5-40+ hours/week. Expected end date for position is April 18, 2027, unless otherwise approved by management.
  • Starting rate begins at $17.13/hour with increases for experience, merit, tenure and future WA State minimum wage adjustments possible.

Availability Requirements:
  • Availability Saturdays AND Sundays required
  • Must be available to work additional hours through the holiday period

General Physical Requirements:
  • Working in the mountain environment is physically demanding. You need to be in good health and in good physical condition and have the ability to perform the following:
  • Bending, twisting, lifting and moving items throughout the day
  • Ability to lift and move 50 pounds (or more depending on task)
  • Standing and or sitting for long periods
  • Climbing and descending stairs
  • Shoveling and moving snow
  • Standing and walking on compact snow and ice
  • Perform repetitive tasks as necessary
