Software Engineer - Developer (Associate, Experienced or Senior)

The Boeing Company is seeking several Software Engineers or Developers to our join our esteemed Technical Excellence Center (TEC) in Mesa, Arizona. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization.
As a full-time Software Engineer within the Technical Excellence Center, you will develop, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse software systems (e.g., processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large datasets, real-time systems, and business management information systems) based on documented requirements. Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust and scalable products. Develop and maintain code and integrate software components into a fully functional software system. Play a key role in the testing process to ensure our deliverables meet the highest standards.
Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Associate, Experienced and Senior Level Software Engineers.
The Technical Excellence Center (TEC) is a multi-disciplinary support organization dedicated to enabling program success across the enterprise by providing deep technical expertise, specialized skills, and broad domain knowledge across mission systems. With the ability to onboard and train new staff, the center grows capability to support additional programs and sites, while management oversight ensures work execution, status reporting, earned value tracking, and that tooling and resource needs are met.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Supports the design, development, test, and maintenance of non-embedded and embedded software throughout the end-to-end lifecycle that meets industry, customer, safety, and regulation standards.
  • Assists with review, analysis and translation of customer requirements into initial design of software products.
  • Supports development, maintenance, enhancement and optimization of software products and functionalities for systems integrations.
  • Supports development, documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software products.
  • Supports debugging and resolution of issues identified to ensure the reliability and efficiency of software products.
  • Participates in handling user inquiries, troubleshooting technical issues and user feedback analysis.
  • Supports implementation of current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks and changes in regulations relevant to software development.
  • Supports development, establishment, monitoring and improvement of software processes, tools and key performance metrics that align projects with organizational goals and industry benchmarks.
  • Supports execution and documentation of software research and development project.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship
  • 1 or more years of experience with application development in one or more programming languages such as C#/C-Sharp, .NET, C, C++, Java, Python, R, SQL, Pro*C/C++, Perl, Shell Scripting, and Web/HTML technologies (JavaScript, jQuery, HTML5, web services, REST, microservices etc.)
  • 1 or more years of experience in Linux or Microsoft Windows
  • 1 or more years of experience with release tools (Azure DevOps, Artifactory, Gitlab, Maven), configuration management, monitoring, virtualization and containerization
  • 1 or more years of experience in the Software Development lifecycle (including Requirements Analysis, Design, Code, Integration & Test)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 3 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance
  • Experience with DO-178C avionics software development and certification (formal DO-178C training or certification preferred)
  • Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines
  • Knowledge of specification format requirements, guidelines, and change control processes. Understanding of relationship between specifications/standards and aircraft/product certification systems.
  • Knowledge of host environments, including processors, operating systems and networks. Ability to build, integrate and troubleshoot software components.
  • Knowledge of software programming languages and databases and the ability to apply to the software domain. Programming languages encompass higher order languages, auto-coded languages and assembly languages.
  • Knowledge of software architecture and design methodologies. Ability to synthesize software architectures and designs that meet requirements, characteristics and constraints.
  • Knowledge of software development processes in compliance with established internal and industry standards, guidelines, and best practices in the development, testing, and deployment of software.
  • Knowledge of general and software development and testing tools, capability and usage. Examples include compilers, linkers, debuggers, data analysis tools, graphical user interface builders, post processing tools, requirements management tools, and web authoring tools.
  • Knowledge of domains, characteristics, constraints and products that require software and influence architecture, requirements, interfaces, designs, and integration/test approaches. Domain examples include data processing, ground support, tools and analysis models. Examples of characteristics and constraints that impact software include operating systems, fidelity and information processing capacity. Examples of products include aircraft, missiles, airborne/shipboard/space systems/ground-based support systems.
  • Knowledge of implementation, validation, and verification processes, practices, and guidelines to ensure software development quality, performance, and safety.
  • Willingness to learn new skills through on-the-job training and experience
