Lead Application Developer

We are looking for an experienced Lead Application Developer to help guide the design, development, modernization, and support of business-critical web and mobile applications. This is a senior, hands-on technical position for someone who enjoys solving application problems, evaluating existing systems, working closely with business stakeholders, and helping distributed development teams turn requirements into well-designed solutions.

The role is a 6–9 month contract with potential to extend or convert and requires candidates to be local to Austin, TX, with onsite work two days per week.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Lead the architecture, design, development, and deployment of full-stack web and mobile applications across front-end, middle-tier, and backend technologies.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand application requirements and translate them into clear technical solutions.
  • Evaluate project scope, development effort, timelines, technical risks, and possible mitigation strategies.
  • Design proofs of concept and prototypes when needed to validate new approaches.
  • Coordinate development efforts across both U.S.-based and offshore engineering teams.
  • Serve as a technical bridge between business stakeholders and offshore developers, helping ensure requirements are clearly understood and delivered correctly.
  • Design application components, system architecture, and implementation specifications.
  • Review technical specifications, development plans, test strategies, code, and other engineering deliverables.
  • Continue contributing hands-on code when appropriate.
  • Participate in integration testing, user acceptance planning, deployment, and post-release support.
  • Review existing applications and recommend practical ways to improve, modernize, refactor, or rebuild them.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate development, troubleshooting, code review, and application modernization.
  • Identify opportunities to improve development practices, reusable templates, architecture standards, and engineering processes.
  • Troubleshoot escalated production application issues that cannot be resolved through front-line support.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend where they can provide meaningful value.
Technical Experience We're Looking For
  • 10+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 8+ years developing web-based applications.
  • 6+ years of hands-on development using technologies such as:
    • C#
    • .NET Framework
    • .NET Core
    • ASP.NET
    • Microsoft Azure
    • SQL Server
    • T-SQL
  • Strong experience with JavaScript and modern user-interface frameworks such as:
    • Angular
    • React
  • Experience working within Visual Studio and Microsoft-based development environments.
  • Strong understanding of application architecture and the complete Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Experience developing applications using ASP.NET Web Forms, ASP.NET MVC, Angular, React, or similar technologies.
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor, or comparable platforms.
  • Experience reviewing code and providing technical direction to other developers.
  • Ability to estimate development work and consistently deliver against agreed timelines.
  • Experience working with geographically distributed teams, including offshore development groups.
Nice to Have
  • Experience supporting applications within financial services or another complex business environment.
  • Visual Studio Release Management experience.
  • Team Foundation Server experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related discipline; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
  • Master's degree is a plus.

Very important: Ability to coordinate with offshore team members, review code as built, bridging gap of business stakeholders both in Austin and India

Day-to-day includes reviewing existing applications and suggesting practical ways to improve, modernize, or rebuild them using AI tools.
